Has anyone else had to replace front brake pads in a 2013 ford f-250 SD GASSER
 

Hi I went in for my 35,000 mile oil change and tire rotation and found that my front brake pads wouldn't make it to my next oil change which is 5,000 mile increments. Then we called local dealer and the pads for these trucks are on national back order and almost no auto parts stores even had them in there system. I have to think that I'm not the only one that has had to change them already. The truck will be a year old march 27th. I run a plumbing business and do put a lot of miles on in a year. We did end up finding them at a CAP in Southbridge, Ma they had them at one of there warehouses and had them at there store in 4 hr. Has anyone else had a problem finding them and why doesn't Ford have a common part like brake pads for one of the most common trucks on the road ???????????????

On my '11 with ~27K miles I have about 3/16" of front pads left. I'm not far behind you.

Not sure if it affects the 11 I think it's just the 13 f-250 , might want to check status and order them ahead just in case.

That seems surprising to me; Super Duty pads used to last a LONG time. Typically over 100,000 miles. I wonder if they changed the pad compound?

Also the gas and diesel trucks use the same pads.

Well Tom I pull a trailer and combined weight is 12,500 so not sure if it's that ! But Langway seem to think Ford switched vendor for possibly the pads be bad . There is a national back order on 2013 pads right now.

Wow this is interesting since I am going to looking for some new pads soon myself. I was looking around a few weeks ago, the national chain places had them in stock. The local Ford dealer could have the severe duty pads within a day for a little more money than a "gold" branded pad. Wasn't there a change in the brake rotor in 2013? That could account for a supply chain issue. Different rotor maybe different pad spec needed.

That would make sense, I know they switch suppliers periodically when a lower bidder comes to the table.

Huh, now that just makes sense. The 2013-present trucks do have slightly larger brakes, and that could be why the change.

That might be it but we looked at 3 different ford dealers and called Napa and couldn't get them. We ended up getting some Wagner pads at a Cap auto parts store. I didn't want to take a chance in trashing my rotors could have gone a week or 2 more.

I recently had my 2011 F250 in the shop for a seized up drivers side front caliper. They said my pads were at 3mm and they had them in stock. I have an extra 200lbs on the front because of the grill guard and I have a cap on the back so I am heavier than most. But I guess the point is that they had the pads in stock ready to go. For reference my truck had about 54k when this happened, so needing new pads at such a low milage is strange unless you tow/haul a lot.

I'm surprised by the wear too. I sold my last vehicle, a '96 4Runner, with 320K miles. It was on the second set of front pads and the original rear linings.

In my '11's 27K miles about 10% was towing 8K pounds. The rest of the time I've been pretty light.

Each time I leave home I quickly lose 350 feet altitude and the gearing for engine braking on that hill (and past that elementary school with strict speed enforcement) with a cold engine induces me to use the brakes more than I did on the 4Runner. I'm sure that that is a contributor to the wear. It still seems pretty quick.

Minke I pull a combined weight of about 12,500 lbs daily and that might be part of my wear and I also pull a 9,200 lb travel trailer a couple times a year but it still seems like they wore down quick but for $65.00 for a set of pads I'm not going to complain. My concern with starting this post was to see if anyone else has had a problem getting pads for a """"" 2013 ford SD TRUCK GAS OR DIESEL TRUCK ONLY """". Doesn't seem to be a probably with 10 11. 12 years

I replaced my front pads at about 50k miles, but that was maintenance, not a repair. As for the OP, sticking slide pins will cause that.
