Does hitting the rev limiter hurt the I6? I drive pedal to the floor everywhere and every now and then i top it out. I get about 12MPG but i make up for it with the time i save. Should i end my speedy ways?

It has a rev limiter??? sixes don't like RPMs try to keep it below 4000.

How fast are you going? What year truck? What gears/tires/transmission? I set the cruise at 85mph for 1,000 miles last weekend and every once in a while, I hit the peg (which is around 90mph). I've never found a rev limiter in my '95 computer.

its a 94 XLT auto tranny. My speedometer quits at 85 and keeps going til it pegs and after that my RPM's hit 3 grand in overdrive and the limiter kicks in which according to my calculations is about 107-110 MPH. All i want to know is, is it hard on my truck to max it?

The limiter is there to keep you from going too fast, so it's not the problem. Driving that fast is hard on the engine, though.

i dont hit the limiter to often but it was on my mind so i thought i would ask, it costed me 50 bucks in a race w/ a 302 once tho, nose to nose about 50 feet from the finish marker and the rev limiter kicked in and he won by like 5 feet.

I've heard there are chips or plug-ins to defeat it, but they don't interest me so I don't know much about them.
