88 ford ranger 4x4 stalling cutting out sputtering
 

When I'm driving it starts to cutout (but it never dies) and it won't stop cutting out until I floor it and then it's fine for a little bit and it starts doing it again.

You need to pull the trouble codes. Ask the scanner gods to grant you a code 53. That's the code I got when my 87 was running the same way. Replacing the TPS/throttle position sensor is a quick/simple fix.
