ford 9 inch drum removal

After knocking off several inches of cow crap from the differential and axle of my ford 9" I am ready to tackle the drum brake removal. I know how to remove drums but I know that these will be STUCK on. Is 9" removal the same as any others? Any tips on removal when the drums refuse to come off. Also best place to buy replacement brake parts for ford 9"? Thanks

Drums on the 9" just sit over the studs. Sometimes you'll find tinnerman nuts holding them in place if they've never been removed before, but that's pretty rare these days. If they're present, remove them and throw them away.

What happens many times is the drum will stick to the axle shaft flange from rust, and you'll need to break that loose. Typically, smacking the drum face between the lug studs with a heavy ball peen hammer will knock it free.

Quality Ford brake parts are readily available at any of your better parts stores.

I had tinnerman nuts on my 56 1/2 ton.But I was going to say I always heat the face of the drum cherry red and walk away.9 times out 10 the drum will pop itself loose in about 45 min cooling.

If you can, back the adjusters off first. If the shoes were down to metal and ground a lip on the drum, it is one less thing to fight against. The BFH is always a good choice.
