Can anyone tell me the purpose of this piece. Its on the front fender of the f1. I found it when I was getting ready to do some rust repair.

If I see it right, it looks like a block plate. Covers the fresh air heater intake.

Great. Thanks. I wasnt sure what it was for.

If you consider filling it up with a fresh air tube & heater let me know .

Sure thing. Your missing yours I assume. I don't even know how the heater hooked up to this hole.

With a tube that runs under the fender to the cowl.

I think that Ray is right. If you had a heater part #8708 would bolt to there instead of the plate. In Canada you may want to take Denny (firstrider) up on his offer.

BTW, I forgot to install mine until recently. Just had the open vent above the headlight. I noticed less wind noise in the cab after I bolted it in.

Interesting, I'll try to remember that.:-X22

My 49 didn't have this, heck, my truck didn't even have a heater in it when it came from the factory. After working on the fire wall I discovered that the heater hose knock outs were still in place. Some one, or the dealer installed an after market magic air heater but not in that location. The heater is also one that doesn't have a fresh air supply tube. Seems odd that the factory did this but any ways I figured a way to make the heater work.

Is that bracket part of the fender itself? Since my cab is a 1950 but the front end is 1952 I'm going to have to fabricate a bracket. Can you take a longer picture to show location on the fender? :-huh

Pete - not exactly sure of your question. To which bracket are you referring? The air duct snorkel connects to the fender opening just above the passenger side headlight. There isn't any bracing or brackets on the 48-50 versions.

This cover plate is the same and in the same location of any 48-52 right upper fender. Pete, look under the front edge of the right fender, above the right headlight. That's where this plate is located. If your's is missing, I may have one.

Holehawgg 02-06-2014 11:36 PM

That cover plate isn't anything special. Just a piece of metal cut to fit the hole and block it off. Mine was still sealed with the original cork gasket. Right in the top corner of the fender like 51PanelMan stated. The only other brace is the fender brace that mounts to the inner fender. I plan on using the Vintage Air Mini AC, heat and defrost unit but I dont see where it uses a fresh air supply to it. If it does maybe someone will chime in that has used it and in that case I could use that hole. Otherwise I am just going to reinstall the cover.

Thanks for the location, Ilya. I don't need the plate I need the part that it mounts onto. As my fenders are from a 1952 I don't think that the RF has that piece on it. I'll have to go out to the barn and check after it warms up a bit. It is 2 deg F with wind feel like -15. :-arrgh
