Well guys. I finally had an opportunity to do a few things on my cabover. With my wife's illness, I needed a mental health break, so out to the barn!
New wheels and tires are on and balanced, got the front grill and headlight buckets in, and re-wired my gauge cluster and installed it. Slow progress but progress nonetheless.
Regards, Mark.

Looks great Mark. You got a lot done! Hope you are over the hump and things can get back to normal.
Happy Easter to your family,
Ken.

Prayers for your lady!

the biggest thing that keeps me from getting totally frustrated by life’s distractions and obligations and selling off my all of my projects is how they remind me of my own restoration. I’m reminded of the origin of today’s Easter celebration, how we get stripped down to the frame, blasted, refinished, and resassembled so we can be made presentable.

Our version of this process is always cathartic and therapeutic to me, when I can get into the shop, and mimic Him - restoring.
Glad you were able to creatively vent. I can’t wait to see the ultimately presentable version. And again, actively thoughtful for your wife’s health.

Thanks for the comforting words and thoughts. I have been stripped down, blasted, but not yet reassembled. Down but not out!!

Regards, Mark.

We are all a work in progress.....

Badmoonreizen 07-22-2019 08:20 AM

Got some more work done on the COE. Noico insulation just about done, door handles installed and working! After finishing the insulation, I am going to finish installing the wipers and linkage, then the cowl vent and seal.

Next, the heater and glove box, heater controls and fabricate some mounting brackets for the original round radio. Door weatherstrip is almost done on the driver's door, then onward to the passenger side. I have plenty of spare parts, some of which I ordered twice. I will put them up for sale later.

Windows and windshield and back glass to follow. I won't have it done for the Dream Cruise, so one of my other vehicles will have to suffice.

Regards, Mark.

Looking great. Sorry you won't be done enough to drive it on the cruise!

I guess I have been derelict in posting the progress I have been making. Blasted, painted, and totally rebuilt the E-350 chassis. Rebuilt the 302, and a friend is working on the C6 trans.
Mounted the cab to the chassis, and this week working on the steering connection, and mounting the brake pedal and booster.

I have a set of new fiberglass steps, which are perfect. I was going to put a 9" bed on the monster, but a friend has a deco wrecker body with boom and all, so I am going to look at it in the next week. If it is in good shape, I might go in that direction. Trying to figure out what wheel and tire will fill that monstrous space.

I'll try to take some current ones as soon as the steering is in place, and the engine and trans are mocked up in place, to put a little weight on the front end.

Regards, Mark.

Mark,
I can't believe how clean and rust free your truck is. Being from that part of the country, I figured you would be fighting more rust. Your truck is looking wonderful. Glad you are sharing it with us.
Terry called me yesterday and said my fiberglass steps are done. It will be a couple of weeks before I can pay for them, but I'm hoping they look as nice as yours.

Great progress, Mark!
it's enviable and inspiring!

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. It spurs me on to stay with the project regularly. Finished the NOICO insulation today and reinstalled the wiper motor and linkage. Next reinstall the heater, cowl vent and glovebox.
I am going to have to weld in some braces to support the radio and amplifier later in the week. I also have to figure out how to cut a 2 13/16 circle in the dash. I am not going to pay $90.00 for a hole saw that size for a one time use.
Maybe use a 2 3/4 hole saw and the use a die grinder for the remaining 1/16th?

Ken: The steps are magnificent and required very little trimming to fit perfectly. They are stronger than the original metal ones. The cab was not rust free, in fact, the bottom back of the cab was so rotted I had to buy 14" of the cab from Terry, who cut it perfectly and shipped it to me. I think I posted some pictures of the process early on.

Regards, Mark.

Holy crap! I must have missed that part! You did a beautiful job of replacing the cancer.

vintage56 07-25-2019 12:15 PM

okay, yeah.
that rust makes me feel MUCH better about my Houston-swiss COE body
the encouragement is mutual, Mark!
