Front hitch options for a '90 E350?
 

Anyone else run into this and figured out a solution? It doesn't seem like either Curt or Draw-Tite make something for this year van. I'm hoping to get a front mount so that I can carry my dirt bike on the front, the rear hitch is already spoken for by the bike rack.

I did order (by accident) a Draw Tite hitch which is meant for a '00 E350. It looks like it would probably fit but I don't think it would allow me to continue to run the front sway bar. Has anyone driven one of these with the sway bar disconnected? Sudden death or not that big of a deal?

A universal receiver hitch is made by a few mfgs. I don't remember the mfg, but I think it was draw tite. I hve one on each of my 3 E-350's. I find them on Craigs list from time to time. I don't know part numbers.

Rick, I'm curious to know what years your 350s are and if you were able to retain the sway bar?

A 95 350 EB;a 2000 350;a 2002 350 Quigley w/high top. I used the front bolt on the sway bar mount for the rear mounting bolt on the front hitch.

Ah, OK. Those are all the newer frame. I compared mine to a buddies '00 van and his swaybar is further back then mine is. He was able to get his hitch in there w/o having to remove the sway bar. Gonna try and hack something together tonight.

I was able to install the hitch made for a '00 onto my '90 pretty easily. It was like it was made for that frame. I was able to re-use 2 holes and only had to drill 2. Left the sway bar unconnected, took it for a drive and didn't notice a difference. Sway bar permamently removed and new front hitch installed.

your 90 is the same as my 87, and on my 87 i pulled a rear hitch off an econoline of the same vintage, and 2 holes per side lined up with existing holes in the front end of the frame, just had to drill a third hole in the frame on each side and bolted it right up. then had to trim the reciever a little to clear the pitman arm. with the bumper removed it was a very simple install. it happened to be a uhaul hitch that i got.

that's interesting. how about the sway bar, no issues there? there was no way my swaybar was going to bolt back up with the hitch in place. it would require fabbing up some really long brackets so that it would clear the side plates of the hitch.
