F5TF-12A650-BXA?
Hey all I have been doing lots of searching for all and any info on SD to MAF. I have a 95 5.8 with E40D. I have been searching for the correct ECM I have found that the, F5TF-12A650-BYA is the pick of most but what is the difference from the F5TF-12A650-BXA?

-BYA is a California emission PCM that has Mass Airflow programming. -BXA has Federal emission programming and it is Speed Density based.

Thank you, as long as I pick a MAF PCM for the conversion I will be ok or do I have to have the BYA?

As long as it is a V8 ecm with the provisions for the E4OD you are fine. It doesn't mater if it is for 5.0 or 5.8 the PCM will compensate thanks to the MAF system. Or you can use any PCM you choose and get a piggyback trans controller but that is usually a lot more expensive. Or Fiveology racing sells a complete kit for the e4od trucks for 700-800 depending on options. I have heard good things about their stuff. You need a MAF PCM that is compatible with your E4OD transmission too. You might as well source the -BYA.

What all do I need for the harness? I thought just getting one from a 96 f150 or bronco was all I would need? Is that correct?

The harness from a '96 Bronco/F150 is completely different from a '95 and prior not only because of the Mass Airflow support, those trucks use an OBD-II PCM. OBD-I computers use a 60 pin connector, OBD-II use a 104 pin connector. That's just the beginning....
Stick to an OBD-I PCM that supports MAF and your E4OD transmission if you want to keep this simple. |

Here is a list of EEC's that are known to be good for this swap and also allow for tuning through the J3 port with an aftermarket tuner. One thing to note is if you pull and EEC from a junkyard truck you need to note the oxygen sensors for it as some used 1 sensor, some used 2 sensors. You will have to match that setup when you do the conversion.

For instance, I have an EEC with catch code DIX1 for my conversion. It is a 1995 federal emissions MAF EEC from a 5.0/E4OD combo with a single oxygen sensor. Just keep your eyes open in the junkyards and you should be able to find one. |
Thank you that is some good info. Couple of questions...How do you look up an EEC if you buy one online to see how many O2 sensors it is to have?
Is there someone who has done the OBD I and made a wiring diagram of how they wired everything? |
IIRC all MAF trucks were supposed to have two but I have been told you can split the harness to make the PCM think there is two without actually installing a second one. I know mass air experts include two new sensors in their kit and I think their harness is a complete replacement not just an overlay but at 1300 I think thats out of most peoples budget for a MAF conversion. I feel really lucky for what I got out for with mine on all JY and eBay parts. But I do have a print out of the wiring diagram for both a 5.0 and 5.8 MAF truck I can post up for you when I get home

False, they did not all use two sensors. I know for a fact WAY1, VEX1 and any other EEC that uses the VEX1 programming strategy use only 1 sensor. U4X0 and AKCO are also single sensor EEC's. BIO0 for example though is a 2 sensor EEC.
