dana 50 axle u-joint removal question

Hey everyone,

to preface this, this is the first time I've had a set-up like this apart.

Got the drivers side of my truck all back together, new axle joint, new seals, new ball joints, new bearings, new rotor and new pads.

So I got that all done, and moved to the passenger side, got it all torn down to the axle, went to pull it out and it seperated at the flex joint, where I'm having trouble is getting the other u-joint out of the axle. I've pryed on it (not too hard, I didn't want to break anything), and I can't get it to budge. What am I missing? Like I said before I've never had one of these apart before. Just want to know what I'm doing wrong.

Your all the best thanks!

If you're talking about the inner axle u joint on the passnegers side that part of the stub is held in the diff housing by a C clip. It's not coming out without opening the D50 which is a huge PITA. Seems I've heard of people changing that joint in the truck still but I don't know how.

Oh that's just grand. The axle is seeping but that's deeper than I would like to go and I don't feel comfortable doing that. The u joint isn't terrible. It still moved but I would like to change it. Looks like I'll have to get creative.

Like said above, in order to pull the inner passenger shaft, you have to pull the 3rd member and remove the C-clip holding the axle in.

As for doing it in the truck, a ball joint press works

Ok that is good to know. Thank you Jacob and Brad for the insight. I will go the ball joint press route.
