Questions about welting
I have a 48 F1 that has staples that are welded to the fender. I'm wondering if this was stock and used for attaching the fender welting? And if so how? At some point need to repaint truck and put welting on any help would be appreciated.

The staples shouldn't be welded. That is the stock configuration. I'm sure there was a guy down the production line that stapled the welting on with a pneumatic/hydraulic stapler. You can glue on the welting after paint. No one will know except you and everyone that comes across this thread. :)

Thanks for the info, when the time comes I'll chime in on how to attach the new welting!

I put welting everywhere there was metal to metal body work. My concern was that the metal would rub any paint off and then you would see rust drips/runs when it got wet. |
That appears to be the gap between the front fender and cowl side. The rubber seal that goes there is more of a filler piece than an actual welting. You need the large gap to keep the fenders from hitting the body when the body/frame flexes (as it's designed to do), but since it's kind of ugly, ford added a rubber filler strip and attached it to the fender as seen above.

Albuq-f1 how do you install it? Does the fender have to be off?
|
It attaches to the fender. So, best way to install it is with the fender off.

Fender welting
As some have stated, I used the rubber grommeting on both front and back fender mounting. easier when fender is off; I V notched the inside welt on the curved sections, so it would not bunch up on the curved edges.

I've found the anti-squeak will gradually work its way up or down in the joint, popping up in an unsightly fashion, unless it is either glued or fastened another way.
|
So I guess there is no definative way to attach? I figure the rear fenders just drill hole thru welting where the fender bolts to the body, but for the front fender, a portion of the fender where there is a big gap, has no way to do this, so I'm guessing there must be a way that people secure it. Mind you I haven't bought welting so I have no idea if it comes with instructions, and also not sure of the best source to buy the welting.
