Connecting tranny cooling lines to aluminum radiators
I was thinking about the steel lines to aluminum connections on aluminum radiators....should I have a brass connector between the two?
Or is it normal practice to connect them directly. My concern is the aluminum being softer than steel and wear-n-tear on the radiator connector. Input please? Thanks! |
I'm running a 1/8npt to AN6 adapter in the rad end, this is blue anodised aluminium. I'm then running AN6 braided line to the trans. No steel in it anywhere apart from the braid. But I'm seriously thinking of doing away with the integrated cooler in the rad and having a standalone cooler on the front or under the truck somewhere....

We just used AeroQuip steel fittings and a Got-to-Show lines kit.

I'd throw a short braided line or rubber line a vibration isolator between the two. Why chance it.

You'll need some interface to go from the flared steel to the NPT threads in the radiator. A brass adapter will prevent dissimilar metals corrosion. As long as the steel lines are mounted so that they can move around it'll be fine. AN fittings are definitely better, but millions of Ford cars went out of the factory with steel lines....it should work for you too!!
