Welcome to FTE sir. Have you contacted your dealer? Your powertrain warranty may cover this as you are just outside of your bumper to bumper.

Did it do this after getting really cold outside? Wondering if the housing is contracting and holding the blade. If so, it would loosen up after engine warms up.

I had this happen with a GM Northstar V8. I adjusted throttle stop ever so slightly to put the blade at a little more tilt and that prevented the blade from interfering with the housing in cold weather.

yes I towed it to the dealer they removed the throttle body thinking it was frozen, I live in central wi it hasn't been above 20 F for about 2 weeks, It is seized up tight, will not move at all. Warrenty will cover it and dealer is sending it back to the factory. Ran fine the night before next morning engine turned over but with no fuel/air it was not starting.

Keep us posted on the repair, kendfischer. Sounds like your dealership is taking great care of you; if you need assistance from my neck of the woods, feel free to reach out via PM. :-X22

Crystal, I picked my truck up today. The new throttle body was NOT covered by the powertrain warranty. So I'm not very happy about that. I plan on writing ford customer care to find out why it was not covered.

It's an external bolt on part. Power train warranty is engine internals.

From the 2011 Warranty Guide

Extended warranty coverage periods are available for certain
vehicle parts and conditions. Specifically,
(1) Your vehicle’s Powertrain components are covered for five years or
60,000 miles, whichever occurs first. The extended coverage applies to
the Engine: all internal lubricated parts, cylinder block, cylinder heads,
electrical fuel pump, electronic engine control unit, engine mounts,
flywheel, injection pump, manifold (exhaust and intake), manifold bolts,
oil pan, oil pump, seals and gaskets, thermostat, thermostat housing,
timing chain cover, timing chain (gears or belt),
turbocharger/supercharger unit, valve covers, water pump

siezed throttle body follow up

Just want to let everyone know that I removed the plastic cover on the side of the throttle body. What I found was three plastic gears. The one gear that ran off of the throttle solenoid /motor had two plastic teeth broke off, thus the gear had a "dead spot" and could not open the throttle.

It always seems as though the warranty covers everything except parts and labor.

itguy08 01-12-2014 08:31 AM

Why was this not covered under the Emissions warranty? I'm looking at a used 2011 and have been reviewing the docs and found this on page 20 of the warranty book:

For your vehicle if these parts contain an emissions-related defect, they are covered by both the Emissions Defect Warranty and the Emissions Performance Warranty.

... snip...

• Throttle Body Assembly (MFI)

I would say seizing shut would be a performance failure.
