Parking guide lines or not? What say you!!

About to order my rearview camera for my truck with a lockpick. Have the option of ordering it with or without parking guidelines. Part of me thinks having the lines might help but I also would like to have a nice unobstructed view. What you think..lines or no lines?

djousma 12-30-2013 01:01 PM

Didnt know that was an option. I prefer them because it helps me gauge how close I am to something when backing up. I assume you are referring to the green/yellow/red lines we have today.

EDIT: Just noticed you are ordering non-OEM, thats why I didnt know it was an option.

I am so used to the lines now not sure I would be able to function without them. It is so nice to stab a trailer with the center line on the 1st attempt. I hooked up to a trailer the other day, some old boy was watching,
He said: "That was impressive, you must have one of those backup cameras?"
I say: "Nope, I'm just that good."
Then I broke it to him. :D

It would be best to have the best of both worlds, but that's not always the way things roll...

senix 12-30-2013 01:49 PM

I prefer the lines..as you get closer it helps to judge the distance.

UGA33 12-30-2013 01:59 PM

Prefer lines.

Yep...Lines are easier as WE get older! :-duel1

There are times that it would be nice to not have the lines, but they don't bother me anymore. They are pretty handy for centering one of these long beasts into a parking space and the center line is nice for trailer hitching. Given the choice, I would still have the lines.

I like the lines, the mrs has them shut off in our escape sometimes and it throws me right off...

Honestly have no idea, never tried or wanted to shut them off.

100% sure my 13' escape has the option though, as the mrs keeps shutting them off:-X03

We have a 2013 Chevy Malibu and the backup cam display has no lines. I wish it did, they really help with perspective.

99FORD EXPY. 12-30-2013 05:32 PM

yes their is that option with the nav radio , put the truck in reverse and look at the bottom right corner at (settings)

BigF350 12-30-2013 05:42 PM

Yeah, the lines are awesome, with reverse parallel parking, it helps me know when to straighten up to get close to the curb.
