2014 Super Duty Wheel Offset and Tire Questions/Input
 

Hi Everyone-
Hope all of you had a nice Christmas! I recently ordered a 2014 F-350 XL 4x4 Crew Cab and will be driving it home Saturday. It only took 5 1/2 weeks from the order day to dealer delivery date.........that was fast! I'm going to run the stock 245/75-17's on the stock 17" steel wheels during the crap weather but want to run something a little wider during the clear weather months. I plan on running either 17" x 9" wide wheels or 18" x 9" wide wheels with either 305/65-17's or 305/60-18's. Both tires are only about an inch larger in diameter and about 2" wider in section width when compared to stock. My question is if I want to basically retain the stock look and track width and not have the tires stick out past the fenders, what offset wheel should I go with? One of the wheels that I am interested in has a zero off set so 4.5" inboard and 4.5" outboard from the mounting surface. Does anyone know the offset of my stock steel 17 x 7.5" wheel? I'm not planning on any type of lift so I want to have the correct offset as not to have any tire rub. Any insight will be greatly appreciated!

Off-set value of a tire rim is not a user-determined factor . It is part of the axle design that centers the weight (payload) over the wheel bearings . This is very important if you are hauling a heavy 5th wheel trailer or a gooseneck horse trailer or a slide-in camper . Use of a tire rim with a different off-set value "may be" harmless , If you are casually driving without any significant payload , but certainly it will put additional stress on bearings.
