More Windhield Washer problems

My 2003 Expy EB 5.4 has a very annoying problem with the windshield washer system. When I activate the windshield washer the rear window washer sprays but no spray comes from the windshield nozzles. It is an intermittent problem and seems to be related to colder weather and higher elevations. On a recent trip from Arkansas to Washington it started acting up in Wyoming and continued until I reached the Puget Sound region (close to sea level).
I can hear the pump running and see spray on the rear window. The rear system functions normally. The front wipers operate when the spray button is depressed, just no spray from the front nozzles only the rear. Any ideas, anybody?

The valve in the washer pump is bad. Just replace the washer pump. You can order one from Rock Auto for about $25. They just wear out, its common.

Hi Mike

Thanks for the quick response. I found a diagram for the system and I noticed a check valve in the hose that goes to the rear washer. Is that just to keep fluid trapped in the line leading to the rear washer so the pump doesn't have to run as long to get pressure to the nozzle?

Thanks,
Ron

Yes, if you're getting fluid at the back when you only ask for it up front it is the valve in the pump and the pump must be replaced.

Thanks Mike,

I guess I'll be buying myself a washer pump for Christmas!
