Advice on Buying New Tires

First, let me start by saying I'm new to this website and this is my first post. I've been a FORD man my whole life, and after owning only Mustangs since I got my license, I now own my first truck. Its a 2003 F-250 Super Duty 4x4 SC SB. I'm now looking to buy a set of new tires and need some advice. As a mechanic this is weird but I've never bought truck tires before. Currently equipped are General Grabber AT2s. I love these tires whole heartedly. They're tough, rugged, aggressive looking and handle any terrain and weather I've put them through here in Northern NJ.

The reason I need help is because aside from obviously looking to get a new set of Grabbers, I'm also considering Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac. Anybody with personal experience rolling on the latter if not on both tires at some point please give your two cents.

Same here. I've run Cooper/Kelley/Springfield tires for years; on various different vehicles; and they have all been great tires...

That being said, I think (but I'm not entirely sure) General tires are made by the same outfit that makes Coopers/Kelleys.... I've run Generals before and didn't have any issues with them...

The Goodyears tend to be more expensive and I'm not convinced it's any better of a tire...

If you post in the Super Duty forum, you'll get a lot of responses from guys loving the DuraTracs. One guy with an Ex claims 50k+ from his set. And you'll probably get a few responses hating on Generals; BFG K/Os have a loyal following and the Grabber II is lowered price with a very similar close/knockoff tread so people seem to pick the pricier BFGs in the E-rated range. Run what you want to run, I personally use Nittos even though tread life has always been a concern from them. I hate Goodyears, they've never run well on anything I've put them on.

I like the Cooper tires. I've run many sets. I have the AT3 on my F250. They may not be aggressive enough for your use. I have a 4x2. This is my first set of this tire. I can say I like them. Decent offroad traction, excellent wet road handling& a fairly quiet highway sound. They show little wear with 16,000 miles on them

Thanks guys for the responses. In the end I decided to go with the Duratracs. They've handled the mud and snow great so far and winter is only beginning. They were much pricier than the Generals but worth it I think. Anyway, thanks again. I look forward to more replies when I make future posts.
