Are 2.3 and 2.0 same carb mount.

I have a 86 ranger chassis with a 88 ranger 2.3 engine in it bolted to a m5r1 5speed. I am currently rebuilding it for a cheap fuel daily driver. I have emissions test here but since the chassis is a 86 I am exempt. My problem is the aisian 2bbl that was on it is not known to be preferred due to all the emission controls. I have tried to figure out what carb I can use on it knowing adapter plates are going to be needed. I have pretty much decided I am going new carb and leaning strongly towards the weber 32/36 progressive with either manual or elec choke. I know the head ports are different shape between the 2.3 and 2.0 but wondering if the carb mounting is the same. I can find weber kits for 2.0 but have not seen any for 2.3. Also any other suggestions as to what carb to use I will consider.

If your 2.3L is a 88, then it is fuel injected. Do we have to assume you have swapped the 2.0L intake onto the 2.3L and now want a better carb than the 2.0L came with? The Aisian carb was actually about as good as the carb that came on the early 80's 2.3L engines.

No it is rare but there were some 2.3 in 88 probly early 88 that were carbureted. It has made getting engine parts a pain.

All I need to know is the rectangle carb mounting the same on 2.3 intakes and 2.0 intakes. If so I will by the weber carb kit for the 2.0 liter and it should work.

You might try some parts houses or search online to see if they take the same carb mounting gasket. In the US, all the 2.3L's were EFI starting in 1985 to meet US emission laws. There were some 2.0L's in the US that got a 2 bbl Aisian carb in 87 and 88 or 89. I see you are located in Canada, ah?

Thanks joe

Thanks for the reply Joe. I was able to contact carbs unlimited and they were able to find a weber conversion for a 86-88 ranger with 2.0 that they said would work.
