Computer for 351W and AODE?

A few years ago, I replaced the 302 engine in my 1995 F-150 Eddie Bauer with a 351W out of a 1992 E-150.

We took the computer from the van with us, thinking it would work. Turned out we couldn't, so we stuck the computer for the 302 in and it was at least driveable.

Now I have the funds to work on that part of it, but I'm unable to find a computer for the 5.8/AODE transmission combination. For example, at the O'Reilly parts store the only combination listed is 5.8/E4OD (the common combination).

Any suggestions on where to get one? Or perhaps a good aftermarket programmable option?

What is the tranny code on your door sticker for that Eddie Bauer?

The transmission code is U... But the truck had been modified some before I bought it. No idea if or how the transmission's modified.

Well that's an issue. The 4R70W was never offered behind the 351. The only way to get more out of it is an aftermarket tuner...

I did find a web site (and I didn't think to bookmark it) that listed my truck in that year range with 351W and both AODE and E4OD.

Suggestions for an aftermarket tuner? This is all new territory for me.

(Thanks.)

The AODE was never used in fullsize trucks it was only the E4OD or 4R70w. The solution for your problem is to convert your truck to mass air using an 5.0/4R70w MAF truck computer and wiring. If your truck is already MAF then you don't need to do anything with the EFI system, just let that motor breath better with a fulll exhaust system and a cam change to the Crane 444232.

Will the 5.0 EEC running MAF be able to compensate enough to handle a 5.8 WITH an exhaust AND a cam change without tuning?

Yes no problem, worked great in my truck when I had a cammed 5.8 in it.

Well that's great to know. Makes me want to get my MAF parts installed even more now...

My truck is already MAF. I'd planned on switching the single exhaust pipe to dual... I'd planned on replacing the cracked manifolds with headers soon so it sounds like now is the time to do it.

But the shift timing is still WAY off. It sounds to me (in my own inexpert opinion) that a computer reprogram or replacement is still in order?

Also had a friend at a local transmission shop help me out doing some simple diagnostics.

While holding the brake and pressing the accelerator halfway, the truck would strain against the brakes but the engine power would start to bog instead of being constant.

If you need to tweak the 5.0 computer to better run the 5.8, you can put one of these on it and it suddenly becomes a tunable computer: The TwEECer -- EEC-IV user programmable module

Is your ABS light on or flashing? Speedo bouncing?

Is your speedo correctly programmed for your tires?

You have some problems with your EFI or fuel system then, pull codes and make repairs to clear any codes that come up, and check that the fuel system delivers 40-45psi constantly under load,

Thanks! I will give that a shot.
