i started my power steering ,, i am kinda jumpy going into this ,, here is what i have done so far , pics in order
loosen the clamp steering shaft
remover the shaft to pitman arm
removed the pitman arm
and loosen the gear box bolts ,, and it seems that 2 of the bolts and welded nuts on inside of frame ???

anyway i need to work on cutting outer shaft then cut the inter shaft then remove the gear box and start the new stuff going back in

now i am ready to cut the steering shaft ,, do i need to cut all the way through then cut back the outer tube ??? i could use a tubing cutter , if i have one dont think its big enough????

Sawzall the whole tube. There is the inner steering shaft that runs inside the outer tube. Can't remove without doing it. If you are trying to get some core money from Mid-50, etc. cut the tube higher up. Grind the outer bolt heads off with an angle grinder and go from there. Should come out nicely after that. Clean the area and mount the new toy box using new Grade 8 bolts and a new pitman (the correct toy to ford arm). Looking good.

the gear box is loose now ,, can i just cut the whole thing and then slide the steering wheel up and cut the outer tube ??,,i need to drill the top side of u-joint and use a bolt to the steering shaft when said and done too

How much $$ doesMid-50 pay for 54 F-100 steering boxes, getting ready to make the Toyota swap myself.

i was told 30 bucks ,, i really dont know ,, you anything about the swap ??

This will be my first swap but it looks like a piece of cake. 30 bucks :-huh... after I pay shipping from Indiana to them, gas to the post office and time time to take it to the post office I could make better money staying in the shop and working. :)

i got the toy gear box installed( there is a bolt right were you put the gear box , cut that outa the way ,, and new pitman arm on , i did end up pulling the steering column its way easier to get everything lined up and i wanted to paint it anyway ,, so once i paint the column and install it back slide the u-joint on and drill a hole for the bolt for steering shaft , i am good to go .. then time to get a pump and bracket thats going to be tough

I took the column and box out the top without cutting it. In fact since I wasn't going to use the column I still haven't cut it in case I find someone who wants a 56 custom cab column with the built in turn signals for their resto project.

Sounds like everything is going good with installation. I bought mine on E Bay and just for a heads up the seller has a buy it now with the best offer option. He accepted a lot less than his buy it now price.

According to the Mid Fifty catalog they want the gear box with the shaft cut about 2" above the box, lube drained and wrapped oil tight in plastic to prevent leakage in shipping. They say it will then fit into a PO 10.00 flat rate box.

I used the Mid Fifty Toy box floor plate cover, but still needed to adjust the column hole (and weld up the brake shaft hole since I have hanging pedals).

So you end up selling the box for 20 bucks after shipping?

And keep the parts on the market for the next guy down the road.
Just to break even should be enough prerogative to keep this hobby going.
We all need to save what we can. And to be able to ship it off so it ain't
under your feet and give another truck builder what he may need is great.:-jammin

Wouldn't it be better to just pay it forward to someone in need rather than let them profit from us why ad a middle man.
