Figured I'd bump this back to the top. I got a little Monday morning surprise from DOT today in my work truck on 113 outside Phoenixville. Full inspection, 0 citations.

Looking forward to making this to know how to get through just as clean with my pickup. It's not really a matter of IF, its a matter of WHEN DOT will find you, at least here in PA anyway. Extra knowledge goes a long way.

Yep, I was North bound on 611 between 113 and 412 basically right across from Wehrungs Lumber Yard and DOT was pulling over all trucks going south. You just never know when they will pop up.

If anyone can't make it to the Q and A post your question here and I will ask it for you.
There is a few I want to ask and I will post them as the date gets closer.

Here are 2 questions that come to mind:

I have a truck with a GVWR of 14,000lbs., do I need a medical card?
How are trucks supposed to be registered as regards to weight, does the weight class sticker cover the truck only or is it supposed to cover truck and trailer?

Expanding on that......

If the trailer is only used for personal use, NOT business.

Some of mine. I'm going to write down a list.

When, exactly is a class A license required, and is it required if the trailer is an RV (over 10,001)

Where can you apply for a Non commercial class A and take the test without a total runaround from the state?

Well I find that I need a medical card, fire extinguisher and flares. I have to renew my license once a year. I don't need a CDL but I might as well have one.
I didn't get to ask about my weight class sticker because I had to leave around 11 to go to Jersey so I guess I will have to make some phone calls.

I just had the DOT at my shop as i just finally applied for DOT Number after 25 Years in business. We mainly work In PA being so close to De NJ and MD we do travel into those states its amazing you are fine to drive up to 26,000 lb trucks here in PA without a DOT number medical card etc etc But once you cross a state line your in the wrong and that number drops to 10,000 lbs or over. We kept getting hit with about $300 DOLLAR FINES so it was time esspecialy since i have gone from 1 15,000 GVW truck to now 3 26,000 GVW trucks in the last year they deff see us coming. and its not for trucking service or long hauls these are all local trips under 50 miles for my construction business. But now I have to fill out all types of logs and keep better records etc etc and have random drug screenings. hey im sure its saving a life just also gotta be a hassle

And now that this new Bill has passed, fines will be doubled, registration fees are going up and of course gas prices. I can feel the money being sucked out of my wallet. So being legal will be cheaper, it might be a hassle to get the paper work started but once it's done I will feel better about being prepared next time I get pulled over.
