Need new Tires for my 2001 Navigator
 

I need new tires for my 2001 Navigator 4x4. I am currently running Contitract AT tires and they suck, they probably have between 1000 and 3000 miles left maybe more maybe less I cant say for sure. But they are weather checked between the treads and are a little chewed up and with winter coming up I figured I should just get some new ones plus their are a lot of tire sales and rebates right now.

I know that I should be posting this in the Wheel/Tire section but I want to see what tires other Navigator/Expedition are running.

I kind of have it narrowed down to these right now but I am not 100% on them.


which one of these would you guys pick? Not sure if I should go with an AT or an all season

I recently picked up a matching set of 4 tires off Craigslist that have about 75% tread still on them for $180. It then cost me $100 for mounting, balancing, and an alignment. So for $280 I have a decent set of tires for about 1/3 what it would've cost to buy them new.

"best tire" will depend on type of driving, terrain, weather, etc.

I purchased the newly released Cooper AT3. I did the research, found great price on www.tirecrawler.com

They work great in my environment in Illinois.

On craigslist someone wanted $650 for five Bridgestone Dueler AT RH-S 255/70/18 rims and tires from a Sahara Wrangler that were take offs. I offered him $550 cash. He took it. The tires were brand new. I paid $110 to mound and balance. Someone at the tire shop asked about the 5 Wrangler rims and I sold all of them to him for $150. So I paid $510 total for 5 new tires that would be $1100 at other tire shops for the same thing.

I paid $120 ea for my Coopers w free shipping.

I live in Oregon so I drive in a lot of rain. 99% of the time I do around town and freeway driving, I may go on a gravel road a few times a year to go shooting and go to central Oregon a few times a year where their is a lot of snow in the winter.

The part of Oregon I live in does not get snow very often but every other year we do get some snow and some times a big storm and I want to be able to have good traction if I do get snow or if I drive to parts of Oregon that do get a lot.

But I do not want to have bad/loud ride quality in the summer and rain with a big treaded tire, that is why I am not sure what to go with.

look into the Michelin all season then.

I am happy with the firestone destinations. I didnt realized it until someone else pointed out but they are all terrains. Minimal road noise. Good firm sidewalls so they dont bulge much. Good ride.

They do pick up some gravel but I dont go off road much in a navi.

Back in April, when I bought my Expedition, it came with a mix 'n match set of crappy rubber. I went to Firestone and I put a set of new Falken's on. Size was 265/60 17 but I don't remember the model. They were about $110 each installed. My experience is they provide a great ride and are very quiet, something that might or might not be important to you. Of course, they're all season and street oriented, so if you go off-road they might not be an option.

Plus mount and balance. If you bought 5 then $120*5=$600. Then $600 plus $100 to mount and balance, so $700 + tax. I was able to do $510 with tires, taxes, mount, and balance for 5 tires. A place here in Houston has Michelin 60k mile tires for $137.50 new plus tax. So a set of 4 would be $595 OTD. I was going to go that route, but the CL deal was tax free for the tire purchase and one extra tire.
