99' v10 swap with 01 "fustrated"

I swapped these engines and I can not get my truck started.I bought the donor pcm with the engine and tried it with both pcm's and nothing.Anyone have any ideas im open to suggestions.

Did you also swap out the chassis wiring harness from the ECM to the engine and then the engine harness too?

faz ford 10-10-2013 06:01 PM

No I did not swap out any of the wiring I just left the wiring from the 01 engine harness my original engine and wiring were trashed by the folks I let work on it.needless to say im doing all this myself because of that.

The pin out connections of different years seems to vary, enough to perhaps cause your issues.

In this link post #'s 4 & 44 mention and highlight this better than I can: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...on-a-99-a.html

Hope this helps!

Thank you JWA I will post with my outcome and hopefully pics of a running F-250

I swapped out my 99 motor for my newly built 30 over 2001 PI head motor and swapped nothing else. All plugged in fine and started on first turn. I did use my 99 fuel rail due to those plugs are different. Why did you change PCM?

SDV10 10-12-2013 04:59 PM

I have wiring diagrams for both if you need them. PM me what you need. I have shop CD's for both years.

SDV10 10-13-2013 01:31 PM

Just for giggles.....Do you have an alarm system with ignition kill? Or anti-theft display on instrument cluster?

faz ford 10-13-2013 02:14 PM

Yes it does but do you think that would do it?

SDV10 10-13-2013 02:23 PM

That is the first thing in the manuals to check. Make sure it is operating correctly. The ignition kill will not let it start but will let it crank. What year make and model truck do have? I figured from your title that you have a 99 and put in an01 engine. If that is correct than i just did the same thing. I have no security on my truck.

faz ford 10-13-2013 03:13 PM

the security that I have on mine is aftermarket

faz ford 10-13-2013 04:08 PM

Svd10 so I did what you told me and I completely got rid of my alarm out of fustration just in case and presto I have a running engine.Thank you so much for your time and patience.

I was watching the thread as a spectator . Many kudos to SDV10 and others for their expertise and patience .Congratulations to faz ford for his persistence and good mechanical aptitude . I would not even attempt swapping engines in my dream .
Good work , good forum .
