It is hard to believe that Oct. is hear already.

Time to gear up for plow season.....



Except I don't do it like I used to anymore. Hardly get much snow up here near Buffalo these days so a top end rebuild and front axle rebuild we used to do yearly is pointless anymore when I can just use a shovel or on a rare occasion the snowblower.

Pointless to do it anymore either as I want to do a second frame off resto as the road salt ate the body for a second time.

Anyways I'm looking at going in with a friend on picking up a now '79 F-150 4x4 that has a totally rebuilt '65 Comet 289 Hi-Po, 3.55 gears, Dana 70 front and rear straight axles, '78 frame, C6 with a shift kit and started life as a '73 F-250 if I remember correctly of what he told me over the phone. How the hell do you register that and I want to know what is on the window sticker lol. Doesn't need anything really, could use some paint and a few cosmetic changes that I don't particularly like, specifically mirrors, running boards and a grill. Other than that, for $3,500 its a steal considering he has over $6k on the motor and trams alone. Trick is, buying before someone else does as he has had a lot of hits on it.

Yeah definitely but I want to confirm the purchase first before I start posting pictures. I only have one I didn't take which is from the add but if we end up getting it then I definitely will take some man. Really hoping I get it but its a slim chance since many people are after it.

Wow, that's a odd collection of parts! lol Dana 70 w/ 3.55's and a 289? With that gearing, what size tires does it have? 31"s? If so why do ya need 70's? Odd!! haha Hey if it works, rock on!!

From the photo I saw it looks to be like either 32s or 33s with a 3 or 4 inch lift. I couldn't tell. He says he's had the truck for 18 years and needed something lighter on gas since his daughter keeps making him drive to her place 80 miles away for stupid stuff. He has a bunch of toys though like a couple Chevelles and other trucks so he doesn't need it anymore.

I agree though lol. Just hope he sells it to us. He sounded interested. He said if your really serious about it he might be able to help us out. You know what that means ;)


Here is the truck in question. Couple things I want to change. Possible the wheels, but I want to replace the mirrors to factory stock, change the grill to either stock or one similar to the '80s withe the blue oval on the center and some '80s style running boards so my friend can actually get in it.

I was saving my bronco so I could do a full restoration, but after the hurricane dropped a tree on it I think it's just a race truck project waiting for the funding now :(

Ok, back to the bike for me! Trying to make good use of our time back in CT, I would like to ride it a little before snowfall.

That truck is pretty interesting, but it certainly looks like some good bones, slash. I'm curious how the thing runs and drives. Good luck with the deal.

I know the feeling. I've been gathering parts for years.

Unfortunately I have been unable to seal the deal with that owner because he needs the money and can't hold it for us. So I have located another. Not quite as potent and needs some work, but still solid and numbers matching :)




This is it. 1979 F-150 4x4, 300 I6 and a 4 speed manual which I'm hoping is an NP435 if it's stock. I'll likely be swapping that out for a C6 though.

Looks like a pretty solid starting point. Everything in the engine is new from top to bottom. It's bored 30 over, new cam, timing gears, valves, guides, rockers, pushrods, bearings, etc. New clutch was installed and the flywheel turned. The frame is in good shape, all new springs on it. It has a 9" rear end and a Dana 44 in front. The seal on the bottom of steering box leaks. The truck has not been on the road in a couple years andit is not inspected. He says it probably needs a carburetor and a tune up and an oil change. Normal tune up stuff.

My plans is, provided we get it, to get it nice-ish again until we can do a full tear down and do it up right. She wants a V8, so even though the 300 was rebuild I'll probably sell it or set it to the side for a little while and she can't drive a manual to save her life so I told her I'd swap in a C6. D44 and 9" will probably stay for a while until I decide to lift it and throw 60s under it as they are my axle of choice. I kind of want to see if I can get an '80s 44 TTB to work as I prefer it's ride over a straight axle. Doesn't like ball joints though. Interior work will also take place. Body will probably left for now until I can afford new panels and paint.

I like the ttb idea.....so much better going fast over the braking bumps than a straight axle.
