Classic Truck Body Shops in Tulsa?

i was wondering if anyone knows a good body shop that can hammer out dents and paint a 71 f250 for less the 5k? My Mechanic is American Classic Restoration owner but he no longer paints. tried lot big shops like a1, hourglass and they won't touch it. they say because the computer don't go back that far. maco the only place i found in town willing to paint my truck and bang out the dents, they said they can even repair my hood damage. the quote they gave me was $4358.60

Sorry, I do not. Looks like they have a pretty solid and straight truck to start with. Wow, I did not know that maaco could charge so much. Does that include some premium paint and clear coat? or is most of that for labor charges for the body work?

I don't know either. But I will give you two names to check with, although they may also be too expensive:
  • Shaun Kitchen: 918-605-5146. He and his brother run a small shop in Tulsa.
  • John Keeline: 918-396-4351. He runs a very small shop north of Skiatook, and thats where Dad's truck is going.
Both of these shops do a range of work so may be able to do what you want. But wherever you take it you should ask what kind of paint they are going to use. Dad's truck was painted by Maaco at some point with a single-stage paint that never hardened. It cannot be sanded off as it gums the sanding sheets immediately, so has to be blasted off or stripped. That adds to the cost for the next paint job, if there ever is one.

Good luck and let us know.

2200 in bodywork and the best pant with clear coat on a 2 tone color change.

This is were I wish I was not getting shut down. You are not going to get a collision shop to do the work, they are production based and will not make any money on a complete paint job. If you do get them to give a quote it will be really high cause they do not care to do the work, Insurence jobs are we're the money is at. The quote for 2200 in labor is close, I can normally do a respray on a car for 1500 in labor with minimal body work and depending on paint brand could have as much as 3000 in materials on the high end, more like 2500 realistically. I would like to know what paint system they are using, I have heard on the 299 paint jobs the uv light breaks it down in about a year, loggevity is a concern for me so I use good products.

its the base/clear 2 step bet they offer an lots paint protectants

jwtimme 09-28-2013 09:21 PM

just cause its a base clear does not make hold up to UV. I have seen clear peal off cars cause a cheap clear was used. I would be worried if they are already offering after paint protectants already. If they are using a good clear it will not need protectants to keep the UV from breaking it down. Granted that is prob the best price you will get in town, may just ask them what line of paint they are shooting and is considered there better paint.

they optional add ons i requested but its all the best they offer and i believe they use dupont.

Gary Lewis 09-28-2013 09:39 PM

As a long time employee of DuPont, or as they say in Delaware, DuPont's, I chagrined to say that my new paint and body man say that isn't the best paint.

ok i finally got the truth out my mom. shes afraid of me driving because all the pain killer i take. with oxycontin, norco, and neurontin taken 2-3 times daily. maybe i should give up driving and use my medical transport called sooner ride for now on. i could build me a nice computer and veg all the time infront of 4-5 monter screens

Gary Lewis 09-29-2013 07:51 AM

You could save a bunch of money, both in the paint and body work as well as ongoing repair, by using Sooner Ride. In addition you won't be likely to break down, get to meet the policeman, and do a face-plant on the pavement. I think I vote with your mother.

GamerGirlAlice 09-30-2013 12:28 AM

well i think i'm ok to drive, my mom worries like all moms. i'm able to sight legal papers on all this meds. if i didn't take them i'd be crying in pain in my bed never getting anything done.
