any info on 2008 axle conversion?

Hello,

There's not much info on 2008 front axle conversion for X. I found few info for for 2005 axle swap, but haven't seen any one do 2008.

I am interested in doing the conversion for either 2005 or 2008 axle conversion. Depending on availability on donor truck from the junkyard.

I understand what is involved for 2005, but not sure how different 2008 is compare to 2005. Any help please?

Unless I am wrong the 08 axle swap for the front will be the same as the 05 info you found. Pretty sure the rear axle will work from the 08 but you will need to use the EX rear springs. Cant use the 08 rear springs to my understanding because they are longer and the EX has stuff in the way therefore unable to move the spring hangers to their new locations. If you do it take pics as I am considering doing it on our 2001.

00X,

Where did you find your 05 information? I have been thinking about doing this and really haven't found much just that you can do it. Why would you want to do an 08 vice 05?
Hijack over, thanks.

I know there is some different gear ratios available on the 08-10 trucks than the 05-07. Maybe thats why

No special reason other than my local junkyard have 08 in stock with 4.10 gear ratio. Which is perfect for 35" tires.

From my search, I know that 05 swap is almost all bolt on. No info available on 08 swap.

Here's is one link,

fordboy2,
Thanks for the info. My concern is 08 steering connection. For 05, I know that you either ream the pitman bigger or use 05 gear box. But using 05 gear box, one hose will not fit. It will have to be custom made.

In that respect, I would feel safer using the 05 box and running down to the local hydraulic shop and having them make the line, rather than reaming out the pitman arm. Maybe the 05 box is improved over the current?

Using 05 gear box is the best option.

This guy around the corner from me did an 08 axle swap with custom suspension on his 2002 F350. It was pretty extensive but maybe you can get an ideal of what it may take for you to make the change you are asking.

He does have a 4x4 and he sure did make a number of huge changes.

I don't like posting to other threads but this one will show you what it takes to get it done and then some.

That is extensive and is not worth it for me to take on the project. At least not the rear 4 link. He didn't mention about ABS sensor compatibility. Wonder if it really is like 05.

I wanted to do the front using stock ford parts first. Then buy 4 link lift kit (pure performance or icon.) For the rear, I see he have brackets for 08 spring conversion. It does seem like it's a bolt on.

I went to junkyard today to buy 08 axles, they sold it. So I will keep on looking.

I found a set of 2005 axles. I went ahead and did 05 axle conversion.

I regret not painting the axle before conversion.
