School me on 9" Cases
I have been looking for the differences in Ford 9" cases. I realize that there are different spline counts all the way to 40 spline, but what makes the difference in the case?
I spotted some "cheaper" detroit lockers on fleabay that were used but also half the price of new ones. The only difference is that they stated that they were for "H" case fords. Does this have to do with carrier bearing sizes? Just trying to figure this one out. I am in no need for 40 spline axles, but I am always looking to save a buck. |
What do you want to do
N cases are the strongest stock but could be money unnecessarily spent for a 200hp motor on 31s. |
i want to know if the "nascar" detroits that are on Ebay will fit a stock case? Or do you have to have the H case for the carrier bearings

Got a link?

No, that wont fit a stock case.
|
Thanks, that's all I needed to know

No problem

The biggest problem is the carrier bearing size. Most factory carriers use a 1.625 i.d. bearing with the typicial 3.062" o.d. Timken makes bearings that utilize the larger 1.781i.d. (that most of the Nascar carriers run) but a thinner shell and 3.062 o.d. to fit into a stock case. You just have to watch that if it's a 2" i.d. then its a big no go until you step up to at least the 3.25 bore cases.
If you really want that particular carrier, then ask the seller what the i.d. of those bearings are and I'll get you the correct Timken p/n to fit it into a stock case. |
Looking at the truck in his avatar I'd say it itsnt worth the effort
|
Probably not, but he asked it if would fit not if it was worth the effort. Plus them fleabay used "NASCAR" lockers are always on there and cheaper than the regular Detroit lockers.
|
True.......

I wasn't going for strength, just cheapness. No need for 40 spline axles with 33" tires (or is there}>) Just kidding, I really was just trying to educate myself.:-jammin
