Factory F350 Rear Leaf Spring Wt. rating?

I would like to ask something here about F350 springs. I just purchased a 07 F350 PSD and after I get it home and run it around a little I notice the top leaf on the right rear spring is broken. Now in the defense of everyone involved I admit I didn't notice it when it was in place so I could see how they missed it at the dealer but when I put a 1.4 ton pallet of wood pellets in the rear it popped out of place. So when I contacted the dealer he was reluctant to fix it for me. Long story short ( I know,I know but this IS the short version) He said if I bought the spring he would replace it free so I agreed and when I tried to get one from Ford they wanted $439.00 BEFORE shipping! So I did some web surfing and when I got done I ended up with a replacement for $124.95 and $59.10 shipping to my door from General Spring of Kansas City (great guys to do business with too!) $184.05 total. and the dealer IS going to do the work N/C so I guess I made out ok. My question to you or anyone that knows is this, Does the F350 Lariat SD come with factory 3000lb rated springs or 3300lb rated springs? they sell both and they are the exact configuration just different weight rating and I bought the 3300lb. but now I am wondering if I will need to replace BOTH sides. as I doubt pairing up a new 3300lb spring with a older 3000lb spring (I believe they are OE) will work that great:-X16. Thanks for any help I get.

The sticker inside the truck on the driver side door frame should give you alot of information like which spings yours is confgured with. It will also tell you the gross weight which shuld b equal to both springs.

Thanks Bently, I looked at the sticker yesterday before posting but it still wasn't clear because the gross weight rating for the rear was 6490lbs which doesn't add up with either the 3000lb OR the 3300lb spring but it is probably a safe bet that it has the heavier spring due to the fact that it is rated for more than the 3000lb spring totals but I was hoping someone else could tell me for sure.

Since you have to replace springs, and since they should replaced in pairs, why not replace the springs with what you want? Call your local automotive spring shop and discuss your issues with them. Custom leaf springs are not that expensive.

That would have worked if I hadn't ALREADY purchased and received my 3300lb spring. ( placed my order at 3:00 pm on the 9th and it was delivered at 2:22pm on the 12th, KC to n.central Maine) I'm pretty much committed to installing it now, not that that is a bad thing I'm just trying to determine if I will need to replace the opposite side at the same time or in the near future or if I could be thinking maybe I can get by just replacing the side that is broken, I want the truck to sit level and haul safe. I don't mind spending the extra if needed but I also don't want to spend it if its not needed. Thanks for the input though and I do appreciate any and all advice and view points.;)

These are the part numbers and ratings for 2006 which should be the same for 2007, front & rear. Tag on spring should give part number.

Where are you getting this information??

Mcrafty1 09-15-2013 08:30 AM

I was wondering the same thing.......none of the spring weights add up the weight on my door post sticker which I just double checked and it states 6390lbs ( think I said 6490lbs. in my previous post ) on the rear axle and 6000lbs. on the front. I guess the 3300lb. spring I have now will be close. I'll know Tuesday, that is when the dealer has it scheduled to install. Thanks to all who posted replies, it's much appreciated.:-X22

I know there are a few posts that list spring code/part number/weight rating out there on the forums. I use the link below as a reference for details about what Ford spec'd for the trucks.

Sorry for taking so long to get back. When I was looking for different springs for my truck, that information was found here on FTE. I don’t remember who I got it from but I do know it is accurate. I used it to replace all four springs in my truck to obtain a better ride. My 250 had the biggest springs listed, rode fine empty. But hook up my camper and you needed the seatbelts. New lighter springs cured it.:-drink<o:p></o>

What was the ride like with the camper? What was thew camper weight??

I ask this as I'm seeking to get an RV in the future. With my F350 it seems RV'ers say the ride/truck will be harsh on the trailer. I'm thinking about using a travel trailer not a 5th wheel as my RV.

SuperDutyScaler 09-15-2013 01:47 PM

you should always replace both sides of the spring not just one

I will be towing an Arctic Fox 32A TT. Dry tongue weight is listed at 970 lbs. I expect it to rise to maybe 1500 lbs when loaded. I'm guessing at 1500 lbs of people/ gear in the truck.
I think that the truck will ride and handle very well. AF builds their own frames and the trailers are notoriously heavy for a given size.
I currently have a Forest River Surveyor Select. The Torsion axles ride very smoothly as they have a dampening effect.
However, the TT is not built very well and will not hold up in the long run.

Arctic Fox is on my list as well but there is only one dealer close by in PA. Wish I had a real stocking dealer close by.

Mcrafty1- just curious on the bottom of the door tag does it say? spr and what letter combination is it. Or does this only apply to 99-04 models?
