95 EB Bronco - Purchase opinion request

I've been on the hunt for a reasonably priced clean 95-96 EB for about 2 months now and I've just made arrangements to go get this one in about a week (provided it passes the test drive and mechanical inspection). I'd be interested in feedback on the offered price and of more importance to me, any observations / points of interest I should be focused on when I finally get to meet her in person.

For what its worth, the carfax shows the Bronco has spent it's life in Virginia and North Carolina and the mileage checks out with no accidents or any other red flags recorded.

That truck looks amazing! One thing, the front bumper has been replaced. 95 Eddie Bauer had a vented front bumper. Great price in my opinion. I looked for 7 months and I ally found my 95 EB bck in June. Seller was asking 5200 and I paid 4300 cash. One owner, mileage at 254k.

If you have not done so , take the time to read this https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...onco-faqs.html from greystreak92.

The 95 is a great year. The E4OD transmission has the final and great upgrades, the engine management system is one we all know (it changed in 96) and if it has a 5.8 it has roller lifters (since 94) and is a fantastic engine.

Negotiating points to check for...5.0 engine is a great engine just does not have the 5.8 torque (downshifts more on hills), working windows, lower the tailgate and look for rust along the very bottom, rust above the rear wheels. Pull and smell dipsticks, ATF should be red. Open air box, lift filter and look for oil in the bottom of the box (blow by). Buy a $35 code reader and check for codes, KOEO, CM and KOER. Drive it on the highway in "truck ruts" and see if you wonder where it will wander and if there is more than an inch slack in the wheel. Original plastic vacuum lines may be leaking so drive it long enough to see if it overheats on the highway. My tailpipe looked like a new vehicle when it was running too lean so a black pipe could be fine.

Check the A/C on Max cool on highway going up a long hill with heavy throttle.

Those auto hubs can be replaced with manual hubs. Check the 4Lo shift, probably electric buttons. Stop, shift to Neutral, press 4Hi, listen for shift and watch for light, press 4Lo, listen for louder shift and watch for light. Do it off pavement. Drive forward a little to listen for strange noises. Stop, shift to Neutral, press buttons to get out of 4WD. Shift to Reverse and back up aggressively for about 40 feet to unlock the auto hubs.

Remember, at 19 years, it is not going to be perfect but its is something you can usually fix yourself with help from the great folks here. Most parts are readily available new because it is basically a F-150 and others at J/Y.

Welcome!!! to the Bronco owners.

Thanks for the input guys

I have to say that there is something so demonstrably satisfying about posting a request on an online forum and actually receiving helpful responses.

We all try and do appreciate the help if we are incorrect.

A towing package option included an extra transmission cooler in front of the radiator, passenger side, shorter oil filter with oil cooler between it and the block, thick radiator, and extra relays to the right of the power distribution box under the hood. Maybe an extra spring leaf in the rear, not sure.

if you end up testing the 4wd be sure your on some dirt or gravel, doing so on dry pavement is not advised.

good looking bronco

So, did you pick it up?

Greywoulfe 09-02-2013 07:14 AM

No I walked away from it. The dang thing turned out to have so much rust on the frame that it would be easier to break off anything you wanted to remove rather than try to put a wrench to it. Oh well, I'm back on the hunt I suppose.
