6.2 1st oil change

Ok to change my oil for the 1st time @ 3000 miles?
Or is there an additive that is in there from ford that helps with break in and needs to be run till 5000 ish?

Thanks

I personally change at 3000 with a new engine then 5000 miles after that but that's just my preference. I think the manual says 7500.

Thanks guys.
That's what I was thinking but wanted a 2nd opinion.

I did my first one at 2500 with MC 5W20. Just did the 2nd at 7500 last weekend with M-1 5W20 EP.

Change it early if you want, no harm done. I'm going to go the full 7500 from now on.

I did 3k then 8k and currently have 12k on it now. I changed the 8k last september and due to Covid havent driven the truck much so I'll change it next month just for good measure..

Good call....I will do the same thing when we get our rig.

I changed mine at 1000 then every 6000 after. I run Amsoil oil analysis says good try 8 but Im good with 6 I might try 8 this time and send in another sample but 8 would be my cutoff.

Of course you'll get a dozen different suggestions as to when/how often to change your oil....my engine lets me know when its time.
Lifters will get a bit "tappier"...startup will be a bit noisier...my wife's Suzuki was the same way.
This doesn't mean I go beyond the 5000 miles interval, on the contrary...it usually gives me the signal BEFORE then.

I always change the oil on a new engine between 1500 and 2000 miles. A second change at 5000. Then, I do it every 5-6k from then on.

I personally am not comfortable with the stated first OCI being 7,500 miles, as stated in the book. There is a lot of metal shavings from the break-in process, casting materials, etc., that will be floating around in the oil on a brand new engine. My custom-ordered F350 came in at the end of September, and I have put 2500 miles on it now, done a couple of tows, since that time. I will be changing the oil at around 3,750 miles with Rotella Gas Truck 5W-30 and a quality oil filter. The second oil change will be at 7500, and I will go with the 7,500 mile interval from then on.

I dont really buy into tje theory that motor oil quiets a motor, but the 1st change I had I went with Rotellas Gas Truck oil and it actually seemed quieter. The next change was mobil 1 and it seemed like more of the 6.2 noises were back. Switched 5k later back to RTG and the noises went away. I judge this by being in line along the McDonalds building each morning for my coffee.... weird but I'm a RGT believer...

That's good to hear. I found a special a while back on the RTG on Amazon for $16 / 5 quart, I bought 5 jugs to cover my next three oil changes. I have always used Rotella T's in my diesel skid steer loader with excellent results.

I did my first oil change at about 1k, then 5 k then 10 k and go 10 k between. I have been changing the filter every 5k, mainly because it is so easy to get to. Have 65 k+ on it now. Thinking of going to 5 k intervals only because I don’t put many miles on it anymore, mainly towing the camper and dump trailer, and it may be several years to put 10 k on it. Use Mobile 1 and any quality oil filter. Have done 10 k intervals with oil and filter on many vehicles.

It has been more than 7.5 years since I posted in this thread.

The same truck I posted about back in 2013 has had its oil changed whenever the truck has told me to, every 7,500 miles I think, and is still going strong at 99,xxx and change miles. I still add no oil in between changes and truth be told, I hardly ever check it because every time I have it has always been up to the full mark. I'm almost due for an oil change now and with what little driving I've done over the past year, I've only put like 6,000 miles on since January 2020.

I've used M-1 5W20 from like 2013-2016 and have switched M-1 5W30 since that time.
