Ford fan/hub assembly ID?
 

Hello, I am new to this forum and could use some help identifying the Ford fan/hub assembly in my attached photos. You will notice that the hub has EAB casting number, so I assume it would be from a Mercury, perhaps a Merc truck. It might also be from a flathead 6 vehicle.

Can anyone help with the ID of this part?

It has a new bearing and shaft installed. The shaft was left long on the fan side rather than short with the sheetmetal plug cover installed so that the shaft would provide for centering of a later model fan. Other than that, it is as found.

Looks similar to a 215/223/262 I6 fan hub (possibly to a car, but will work in a truck). EAB is just a prefix for a Ford part number. Doesn't necessarily means that it's a Merc.

Can you post all of the numbers found on the pulley and bracket please.

Interesting! I just made a similar piece for my v8, left the shaft long to center the fan blades. (Note that the shaft doesn't turn like on a water pump, so it can't be at all tight fit) I've never seen a bracket like that, looks vaguely Y-block to me, and the sheave says "S.C. Co." so an aftermarket item?

The reason why I say it's from a 215/223/262 engine family is because that bracket looks absolutely similar to the one on the 215 engine in my 52.

It doesn't have the wide pulley or long snout of the Y-block (truck) high-mount-fan. I think that it looks like it has Ford casting numbers. My guess is that it's either assembled using them or it's not aftermarket. Perhaps it's a narrow pulley (& close fan) mod for high-mount fan trucks? Might let one put a true damper on an older Y-block. Yes, I'm still guessing..

Edit - looking at it again, the fan spacing does seem to match up to truck high-mount fan spacing.

Sorry, I am not trying to sell it. I have put it to use on something else and actually am looking for another one for my next project, a 1932 Ford pickup.

Thanks for this info. I now have a new place to look. I got this one from a friend who has no idea of its origin. It uses the same shaft/bearing assembly as a flathead water pump.

I'm familiar with 223 inch sixes. Is the 215 a flathead six?

215/223/262 are all inline 6 cyl overhead valve engines. 215 are 52/53. 223 are 54-60 or 61. 262 are from 60/61 to 64, I believe.

After seeing 51PanelMan's comments and helpful information, I did some more focused searching and I am convinced that this fan pulley/hub assembly is from a 1952 215 inch six (perhaps other years and 223's as well).

I would like to buy another one. If any of you have one to sell, please let me know. PM would be best.

I can give you a bearing number for that, at least what worked for me. NSK 885586, about $20 at industrial bearing houses. (lower bearing below)

I'm coming up with part # EAG8625A for this assembly. Checked on partsvoice.com and nothing is available. Search eBay for used.
