Amen Brother! Amen Brother! I lowered my plow truck this winter when I had a flat tire, that's about it though.

I went 2" with reverse eye main leafs from Sac Vntg. Any more, IMHO, and it wouldn't be a truck no mo'

Nothing crazy and still keeps original parts on truck, which I like...not in a huge rush, with summer around the corner I want to be driving and not staring at truck on jack stands

Both my 57's have/had electric wipers, and my 58 did too.

Interesting that some had vacuum and some had electric. We need Numberdummy to help us get to the bottom of this..

Probably just an option. My '59 F350 has a custom cab, magic air heater, and lousy vacuum wipers!

Is it true that the vacuum wipers work from the fuel pump? How well does that work?

By the time I was old enough to know, my father had pulled the 6cyl out & had the Buick engine in. The wipers were just hooked to manifold vacuum. We used to laugh at them as they would stop every time he throttled, then start again when he let off. We just thought that was normal!

Back in the day, passing a car in the rain was an adventure, apparently.

I'm interested in how that works as well, from what I've read...they didn't work very well and looks like you experienced it first hand! that's crazy...quite a change from now, I was reading that it will be mandatory that all new cars come with back up cameras.

The cars and trucks that had vacuum wipers used dual diaphragm fuel pumps. The top diaphragm helped boost the vacuum signal from the manifold to help keep the wiper working when manifold vacuum dropped under acceleration or WOT.

Cameras on every car. Another government mandate to make everything idiot proof. :-X04

Having had several cars with vacuum wipers, I can tell you they're a treat!
As stated above, going uphill, or passing in the rain is an adventure.
My '31 has the single vacuum blade hanging from above the windshield. It clears about a square foot of glass, when it works. The '59 is run off the bottom of the fuel pump, and isn't very strong. I plan on going through the vacuum motor at some point, unless I find a cheap electric in the mean time.
