Should my boost be higher than 20psi?

Note the mods in my sig line below. The most boost I can generate is 20psi, and that's at the top of the power band, screaming up a mountain pass with a 9K trailer, driving with EGT's at 1200. Is that the max I can get without further mods, or should I be creating more? If so, should I be looking for a leak somewhere?

fordpride 08-07-2013 02:47 PM

That's it. If you have a Cali model you should be around 28

fordpride 08-07-2013 02:48 PM

With a completetly sealed system I could get 23psi

Groundpounder0331 08-07-2013 03:10 PM

Ok thanks. I saw others were getting higher boost with relatively the same mods. I do think it's time for Stage 1's and an interooler. Maybe a new HPOP... Let the fun begin.

Highest I ever saw was 23 and I thought my truck was stock. However I just found out I have an SD compressor wheel in my turbo, which makes me wonder what else has been done to it. also running an edge programmer in the lowest steering.

I get 20 and not a tick more. no exh leaks and what seems to be a well running psd.and yea thats just flogging molly and up top in the revs

Just curious, could wherever the gauge is hooked up effect readings for good or worse? Or is it pretty much ok wherever.

What position is your chip in?

Groundpounder0331 08-08-2013 08:42 AM

I'm not the expert here, but when I hooked up my boost guage, I just found the most convenient location and did it. This was on the passenger side of the motor, and it worked fine. I don't believe location makes a difference.

It will make a difference if you have a intercooler, otherwise just put it where ever.

I could hit 23 psi with similar mods except no chip.

I am just wondering how ya all are testing for boost, and is everyone posting here testing the same way? I don't have a boost gauge and am just using a pressure gauge. If I am just romping on it going on the freeway in forth gear it jumps up to 30 or a little more and then about the same when I go to 5th. this is with no load and no inter cooler. When I am towing I don't think it gets that high though.

I have the edge programmer, oil return lines and a little more than stock fuel pressure. I hit 25 psi of boost, but an too scared of egt numbers to hit wot yet. If you buy more than 30, you better have some serious mods done.

cowmilker08 08-09-2013 11:56 AM

I had a temporary boost guage installed for a week or so. I tapped into the Map sensor hose.

You need springs and push rods if you are hitting 30 psi boost.

This is a link to a thread I did a little over a year ago, maybe the gauge is faulty I'll have to check it out. I didn't bother getting a real boost gauge when I saw that I had that kind of boost pressure.
