intro - new 1951 owner
 

Hey All,
Just wanted to introduce myself. Name is Doug and I live in Encinitas, CA (north county of San Diego). I have problem. I am addicted to anything with wheels, especially interesting vehicles - ones you don't see everyday. :D I love building them, making them better and fixing them. Try to do things right, the first time. I TIG / MIG weld, fabricate and (more or less) enjoy turning wrenches.

I recently bought a really nice 1951 and am in the process of making it my own. The paint is really nice, not perfect, but a 2' except for a few scratches and chips.

I plan to install a late model EFI engine and trans.

I have a solid 390 and C-6 for sale. The package runs well (warm and cold) and makes this truck scoot. Compression #s are:
155 160 150 150 155 150 160 150
It also comes with headers, a power steering pump, Mallory Unilite vacuum distributor (no points), Edelbrock 600CFM 1406 with electric choke (rebuilt - jetted for sea-level)). I can also cut out the motor mounts and sell the trans mount and driveshaft in a similar vehicle. Motor mounts (ready to weld in)

The engine is clean. Not show quality, but definitely clean. Comes with a brand new water pump installed and a spare OEM manual fuel pump. I haven't had the engine long enough to know if it leaks. The valve cover gaskets were leaking, so I changed those and cleaned up the trail.

The engine and transmission are in the truck, can be test driven or tested and will remain in the truck until sold.

Asking $1500 for the engine, trans, including alternator and power steering pump.
Vintage Air compressor - $150 (new) with mounting brackets.
Complete exhaust $200 (it is brand new with aluminized coating on the pipes)
B&M slap shifter and custom floor mount riser $100

Nice looking truck! (and not the one I thought it might be) What's the story with those bars coming from the back of the cab down into the bed? I like the color and the wheels. What kind of front suspension does it have? Again, welcome! Tell us all about it.....

Pictures forthcoming which will save a lot of typing. Anyhow...
Front suspension is a Heidt's cross member with Mustang II suspension with adjustable coil overs. Nice clean install. Someone knew how to TIG.

The truck was originally built as a drag racer. It has mini tubs in the rear and could probably fit a 15" cross section rear wheel. With an alcohol burning 311 cubic inch 6 cylinder the truck ran low 11s. WILD! HUH? That's why there is a six point cage. I probably will leave it for now as I don't want to plug the holes in the rear of the cab. Don't want to have to turn the paint to patchwork.

About 10 years ago, it was converted by the same owner to street use. Since then, it only has about 5k miles on it. The AC was added when he moved to AZ.

Rear has 13 gallon fuel cell, which I plan to change to a normal steel tank. I will likely modify one to fit between the rails, but haven't figured that all out, yet.

There is ZERO rust on this truck (amazingly). I've had it up on my two post lift and given it a pretty good once over.

BTW - the four fenders are fiberglass, but the rest is all metal.
