2009 Lincoln Navigator Problem Log
 

Hey guys

So this is my mom's 2009 Navigator after a few years of normal wear and tear, oh yeah and attacks from thieves, the Navigator has started to show some issues. So here I am my mom's 16 year old son who loves to fix things and hates to see appliances (cars included) in a sad shape.

As of now there are three major issues that I can name off the top of my head; the rear air suspension, the front driver side window, and the passenger side running board. So I did a lot of research and will be using this post as log as I fix things to help out others who find themselves in this situation and to ask others for help.

Rear air suspension:

So this is a major problem that will sometimes rear its ugly head at the worst time possible. I can count a few times where we have went out into the driveway to see this sad sight:

I'm not to sure what causes it the compressor works just fine and after being under the truck I don't hear any hissing or seeping sound s that would lead to a leak. I don't know maybe the ride-height sensors need to be readjusted or maybe they're just dirty.

The Driver's Side window:

This is the second window regulator to break, front passenger regulator got stuck last winter and was fixed free of charge by the stealership after a little bit of negotiating. But now the driver's side front is stuck we manged to pull the window all the way up but I think in the process of that we might have taken the window off the regulator so I will probably end up getting some adhesive to re-attach it.

I will also be using cstanley44's guide on window regulators to try and re-grease the the window tracks and if that doesn't work then I'll replace it:

The last problem is the passenger side running board which likes to go up half way only to drop back down to the lower position when ever a door is closed. To add to the confusion, when the truck is running it will sometimes go all the way up.

I believe the problem with this is that the sensors are dirty. From what I heard the stealership just takes a can of wd-40 and spray's the heck out of the sensors so that seem like the first thing I will do.

While at the dealership and the salesperson told us that they personally hate the roll down designed running boards and wished that ford would go back to the 2003-06 slide out design with the kneel down option.

Great thread! You are to be commended for trying to help your mom.

Our 2007 looks like the twin to yours.

I've found the running boards love lubrication. Mine occassionally misbehave, and if I soak the front and rear hinge mechanisms with PB-Blaster (WD-40 should be fine too) and then "help" the boards go up a few times they work fine.

So try soaking the hinges... maybe put newspaper or something down on the driveway so you do leave puddles of WD-40, open and close a passenger door and then put your foot under the running board in the middle... right around where the front & back doors meet... and lift hard.

It might not make it the first time, but work it a few times and the lubricant can work its way into the mechanisms and I bet you'll be good.

I think the boards have a door sensor and a speed sensor. Close a door and they'll try to go up. Hit 5 mph... or 8 or something... and they'll try again if they aren't already up.

The air suspension might not be this easy!

The driver's window is a great big puzzle... but working inside a door just takes patience, light, and small hands.

Hmm... I thought I updated this thread quite a while ago but it turns out I didn't so why not a better time to do it.

My mom called the dealership that she bought it from and complained about the problems and how I put a youtube video up on the issue. They allowed her to bring it in and fixed all of the issues but only charged her for the price of the window.

I've seem to have forgotten what exactly what was wrong with the air suspension but I believe she had to return the truck two times (back to back) to the dealership in order to get it working properly.

As of now everything works fine the passenger running board gets stuck sometimes but I plane on soaking them with wd-40 as mentioned above.

do you remember what the problem was with the rear air suspension and what they had to do to fix it

The air suspension has height sensors, air bags, and a compressor.

If the sensors are sticking or get confused, you'll have issues.

If, I mean, when, the bags leak, you'll have issues.

When the compressor quits it's time to replace it.

I've been very happy with our system. It has broken and I've replaced the compressor... but I really like the air ride's capabilities.

I'd recommend paying the dealer though. Much of the air ride needs to be tested, diagnosed, and re-programmed electronically.
