1951 F1 Tear Down & Restore.
 

I recently purchased a 1951 F1 and am now in the middle of the tear down. Since I will be working mostly alone, my first purchase was a 9K two post lift. In a month I have been able to take an excellent daily driver, and reduce it to many piles of parts. I hope the restore goes as well as the dismantle.

Since I am new here, I am having problems adding photos to the thread. Is there an attache photo button I am missing? Do I have to have the photos already in an album offsite with a http address? Do I put photos in my garage album? Old and slow but trainable.

Couple of things:
There is a short tutorial in the Forum Tips thread at the top of the listing that should provide you instructions on loading pics. In short, you need to put the pic file on a site like photobucket to link on FTE.

I'm hoping that your dis-assembly process included bagging and marking all the parts - along with lots of pics. There is nothing more optimistic and consistently disappointing than reliance on memory.

What are your plans for this beauty?

I never could sort out that web pic hosting deal. There is another way that I found real easy - If you join this site ($20) then you get a little paperclip icon. You just click on that & you can search your harddrive & post directly from there - very easy.

Ok, not exactly but at least were in the same state, I'm in Riverton.

I also have a 51 F-1 that I successfully tore down about 7 years ago and I've collected all of the parts ie fenders etc etc to put it back together but have been sidetracked with a 52 F6 among other distractions so the F-1 is still in the attic, garage, basement, garden shed, oh man it's all over the place ;)

Anyway, welcome and we expect pictures soon:)

Wow, What a great looking and incredibly solid looking truck! If mine had looked anything like that one I wouldn't have torn it down. I bought an idea of a truck and have since probably spent triple just acquiring parts and its still just a parts pile.

I can't wait to see what it looks like when your done with it.

Welcome! I tore my 50 apart in 2010, and it appears that I too am on the "seven year plan". They come apart really quickly, then life gets in the way. But I don't regret it because my kids are only young once.

Wow, I wouldn't have touched that truck! Very desirable HD 3-sp, deluxe trim, and incredible sheet metal! Please tell me your restore doesn't include a different engine?!

As Ross said, that truck is so nice I'd be hard-pressed to tear it down but given your investment in that lift (which by the way isn't fair to the rest of us ground-dwelling types with bad knees) your commitment is serious so good for you.

Hope you keep it gennie just because it looks so solid but that's your business. :-X22

Here's how to post pics using Photobucket.


Go to Photobucket.com and sign up for a free account. Then create an album for your truck. Upload any pics you want to post on FTE to that album. Have this album open on your computer when you want to post pics on FTE.

While you're making a post on FTE, select the pic you want to post from your Photobucket album. When the large version of the pic is open, right mouse click on it and select "View Image Info". The image info will be highlighted and will look something like this:

Copy that highlighted info (right click / copy).

When you have the spot in your post where you want the pic to be placed, select the "Insert Image" icon at the top of the post (looks like a mountain) http://images-2.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/...nsertimage.gif and paste (right click / paste) the image info you copied in the highlighted box (just shows "http://" when it opens).

Your pic will be placed in the post. :)
