The Clark Swap...Has Begun
I just picked up a 285V Clark out of a '76 F600.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ctureid=134875 I was originally going to get a 282 but I liked this shift pattern better. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ctureid=134876 The plan is to stick it behind the 416 in my '66 highboy so I can run 3.54's and still have a low(ish) first gear and close up the big 3 - 4 shift all in one shot. To get the slowest speed slower I will be swapping a NP205 in. The stock FE powered slick highboy bellhousing is on the left, the '76 F600 bellhousing is on the right. They are the exact same depth. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ctureid=134877 The top two bolt holes in the highboy bellhousing fit the top Clark holes. The bottom ones aren't even close. The plan is to "beef" up the bell housing where the two holes need to be and then drill & tap the holes. Here is the tag. Anyone know what all the numbers mean? https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ctureid=134874 The only problem I have ran into so far is sourcing an 11" clutch disc with an 1 3/8" 10 spline hub. Any ideas on where to find one? |

Very cool man. Keep us posted.

If you rebuild an NP205 yourself I could recommend a
KENT MOORE TOOL J-23429 INSTALLER Or equivalent. Trying to get the idler shaft driven in while keeping all the shims lined up is otherwise a maddening experience. Don't ask me how I know... |
Just curious but why do you want to use the FE bellhousing? The Clark looks like it has the FE/FT block pattern, from my seat anyway.
D3TA is a Ford casting so I'm guessing 7004-EA is Fords specific part number. |

Now that I know that the ears are the same, I am using the F600 bellhousing. |
I wonder if the output shaft on the NP435 would work on the Clark. That's the only difference I notice. Awesome that the bellhousing would work. It sounds like you'll have a winner there.

Now that I know that the ears are the same, I am using the F600 bellhousing. I plan on "cold" welding two pieces of 1/2" plate on the inside of the highboy bellhousing for the new holes to go through. Hopefully I can do it without cracking it. |

How does the Clark compare, weight and size wise, to the NP?

Here's some more crappy pics. I got the plates in without cracking the housing and the holes tapped. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/p...ctureid=135047 |
Does anybody know if the hole for the pilot bushing in a 361 is the same diameter as our FE's?
