Raptor or F-250?

I can't quite decide what I want to replace my Expedition. I like both the Raptor and the Superduty. I did not drive a Raptor yet. The f-250 drives well but felt heavy and the mileage showed 9 MPG.
According to the salesman it gets 19 as a diesel while the Raptor gets 15.

Is that true?

As the Raptor is heavier, is it still faster than a King Ranch with the same V8?

As for the room I hope the cabin is as roomy as the Platinum one I sat in at the dealership. It was impressing.

What are the pro and cons of the Raptor vs a SD?

In part it depends on what you are planning to do with the truck. Are you using it to haul a trailer, materials in the bed, or mainly to drive to work. I would not think the Raptor is heavier than an F250, certainly is not if the F250 has a diesel. Main downside with the Raptor on purchasing is no discounts, where you could get them on an F250 or a upgraded F150. Both are going to be very roomy inside. Raptor MPG is going to be based on how you drive the truck, 13 city is what I was getting before I installed my supercharger.

At the end of the day, both are great trucks.

For what it's worth, buy a F150 FX4 with the 6.2 and mod it, less money than the Raptor and unless you doing some significant off-roading - you can make the FX4 look pretty bad for a few G's. I had a friend with a Raptor, my F150 sat higher, looked meaner and was faster :) He traded his Raptor for a F250.

Are you going to mod either? My tuned f250 is crazy fast. I guess it all depends what your going to use the truck for, towing, heavy work-sd. Light, minor truck stuff-raptor.

Both are sweet trucks.

I am not sure about modding yet. What is the tallest F-150 besides the Raptor?

I was told the Ecoboost is the way to go if no Raptor. But I don't like the V6 sound...

2ndStroke 07-14-2013 04:43 PM

The raptor is very impressive from the factory if you have no plans to mod. If I didn't need the extra payload capacity, I would probably own one.

Unless you are planning to do some off roading or really like the look of the raptor i would suggest the ecoboost (faster in the 1/4 mile and 0-60 than the 6.2). Between that and the f250, research more into the mpg's and consider if you are doing heavy lifting with it. Or do the ecoboose with some air bags, but thats just me

TCAS007 08-03-2013 05:34 PM

My dealership told me they can't order any Raptors anymore a d that they hardly sell the V8's in the F150.

They try to talk me into a Premium with the Ecoboost. Drove it and it felt impressive. Although the MPG showed 15 only.

go straight to the F-250 IMO. you get more truck for a better price

The raptor is cool and all, but in reality there isn't much a Raptor has that you can't do/get in a regular F-150

Having had the F-150 and the F-250, I will never downsize to a F-150 again. For the price of a decked out Raptor Screw, you can get a nicely optioned F-150 platinum, or a PSD F-250 CrewCab.

really depends on your personal preference. I suggest you drive all three and see what gets the biggest nod

You're dealer was misinformed. Roughly 1/2 of all F-150's are still sold with a V8 engine according to Fords sales figures.

We've had 250's, 350's, and the stepson has a NICE raptor...

an earlier poster has it right - what are you planning on DOING with the truck ?
think long term cuz it's expensive to miss like I did :)

the 250 was not beefy enough for the new rv we are getting so had to upgrade to 11.5k gvwr 350 platinum... love the truck and tows fine, but as a daily driver, you do give up some ride quality to be able to carry so much !

the stepsons cc 6.2 raptor's ride is outstanding !!! it literally floats over the road...
the engine response is strong, but nothing violent like the twin turbo ecoboost even when stock...

I had an fx4 ? with the EB as a loaner and it was a fun drive for 3 days... so much so that we traded the wife's nice Audi in on the new Explorer Sport with the EB...

so bottom line - pick your poison by what you want to do with the truck... good luck !

Depending on what your going to use of for, I'd get the raptor just because theyre bad ass, but the 3/4 tons are awesome also but I'd get a 7.3

When I was looking for a new truck I took a Raptor for a test drive, I couldn't stand the excessive body roll on fast or sharp turns, that killed it for me. That was in 2011, maybe Ford corrected that problem in newer Raptors.

Only thing I have noticed on my was it nosed over when coming to hard stops, but corrected it with the mid perch adjustment. It does have a pretty soft suspension which is long travel, so maybe that is what you were feeling.

plus one! The raptor is an awesome truck straight out of the showroom.
Are you going to tow with your truck?
