84 F250 7.5L Dual Tank Fuel Issue
 

Hi,

First of all, a sincere 'thank you' to the contributors to this site, I have found much good information on here.

I am helping a friend fix and sell his truck. It is a 1984 F250 7.5L Gas, M/T with Dual Tanks, Electric Pumps in the tanks and a 4 barrel carburetor. It has 42k original miles and sat around a long time.

I replaced both tanks, both electric pumps and performed a full tune up. Truck ran and drove great for about two weeks, then started stalling. I found that there is zero fuel pressure. I am suspecting that the 6port fuel selector valve has gone bad, however, it seems to switch properly. I can hear the valve move. The fuel gauge readings change when switching tanks. The proper electric pump runs when switched from front to rear.

So, is it possible that the electric circuits (fuel pumps and sending units)switch properly even though the fuel flow through the 6port valve could be blocked, or sucking air?

I also tried jumping the oil pressure switch = no change.

If my 6port valve is indeed causing my zero fuel pressure, where can I get a replacement? I believe the part has been discontinued from Ford. I have found some 'universal' 6 port valves, but I am not sure which one to use. I understand that I may need to rewire a connector, which is fine. I just want to keep the truck as OEM as possible with both tanks and both fuel senders working properly.

I believe Autozone carries the universal type switching valve that will work, but may need a little retro-fitting with the connectors to make it fit up.

You might want to disconnect the inlet line at the selector valve and see if the pump is actually pushing fuel as far as the valve.
