favorite recovery/ snatch kenetic strap?

Hey just wondering what your guys favorite recovery strap is. I have a 20 foot Ericson 18,000 break 2 inch. Love it. Found out lots of people have never used one. Seen people yank on chains not a good idea. The ropes stretch 30% ! What's your favorite

Smittybilt CC330 is kind'a useful on occasion.

My favorite " strech " recovery device ? My Drunk brother in laws rear bumper on his Silverado ! Busted my grill , but well worth the look on his face !

I have this guy under my rear seat. Used it a few times on my '00 (sand and mud), have yet to use it with my '11.

Pro Comp Suspension Part 330000 - 3 in. x 30 ft. Recovery Strap

blueeyedfordguy 07-04-2013 04:31 PM

Nylon stretchs more than the polyester. Straps stretch about 20% and recovery ropes close to 30%. Looked at recovery ropes. Bubba ropes look like the way to go!!! Some serious stuff. Thinking about getting something 30 feet with a 30,000 pound break

Mod note: changed wording due to links not intended.

Arb, pro comp and all the top company's make great straps. I might look into a rope. Wonder how mp super yanker compares to bubba rope. Looks like a heck of a product!MP Super Yanker 7/8" x 30' 28,500 lbs Kinetic Tow Rope:Amazon:Automotive

I'm not sure that is a "good weld" at 02:19. :-X15

2000silverbullet 07-06-2013 06:19 PM

He said a "good" weld is rated up to 60k lbs. His weld should be good for 30k. heh.

blueeyedfordguy 07-06-2013 08:42 PM

Being a welder I totally agree!!! I mig weld and clean up with a air angle grinder before Any welding. I can do dime and nickel size welds if needed. But yes not sure on his weld

Rovernut 07-07-2013 06:40 AM

His weld is probably even less.

I wouldn't weld a recovery point with anything less that E70xx, which has a tensile strength of 78,000psi.
But that doesn't mean a perfect 1/4" wide bead 1" long will have a 78,000psi tensile strength, because that would only be 0.25 square inch of weld.
Your most common hot rolled mild steel will have a tensile strength of 58-79,000psi. Cold rolled will be around 63,000. It looks like his steel loops are about 1/2-3/4" so about a tensile strength of 30-40,000lb.
A good quality 3/4" screw pin shackle with 5:1 design factor like CM or Crosby will have a rated breaking load of about 57,000lb, but likely an actual breaking strength approaching 64,000.

Given all that, I find it odd he's worried about a shackle breaking, unless he buys them at tractor supply or northern tool.

I ended up getting one from Master Pull. There are various sizes available and you can find them direct, eBay or Amazon.

Those are tow ropes, not kinetic recovery ropes, which you do want to be nylon so they stretch.
Hooks are a no-no on recovery ropes and straps also.

Find yourself a construction safety guy and get the hook-up on nylon rigging slings;)
Rigging slings taken out of service due to "wear threads" showing still have plenty of SAFE life left in them as recovery straps........and you can't beat the price (again, if you have a source):-X04
