Truck dying in the middle of the road
 

Hey! I've kinda encountered a problem... Sometimes while I'm driving along, my 1988 F-150 just dies and won't start back up in the middle of the road. I try putting the clutch in and giving it more gas as it dies, but that doesn't seem to do anything. It also doesn't start immediately after. It'll turn, but not fire. I have to wait 20-30 mins, then the truck will start back up and I can usually get back home. I'm gonna put my guess as fuel pump? But if so, which one? And if not, then what's the problem? Anything helps, thanks!

An issue like that screams at me ignition module. They tend to cut out when hot and not work till cooled down. Fuel pressure is easy to check, and so is spark if you can get stopped safely. Good luck that is of course the worse part, when it happens.

If your up to it ignition modules are rather cost effective and not so hard to change out for good measure.

i have had the same problem with my 5.0 auto. stumbles and dies then I have to wait. pardon my highjacking but I cant find any other info that would help me fix this. been through icm, pip sensor, new plugs and wires, new dist. cap. basically almost everything

In all seriousness that sounds like a classic TFI ignition module problem.. that's the module on the side of the distributor. Go to a junkyard and get one from another truck to try out. you'll need a 7/32s thinwall socket to get the bolts out of the module and you may have to remove the distributor from the motor to get at it so you'll need to know how to reseat it properly to get correct timing.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I did some more research, and it's probably the ignition module. I'm headed to the junkyard tomorrow to pick up a new one, so let's hope for the best! Thanks again!
