Not nessisarily the sending units I would check the wires at the selector switch my 87 which is gas(shouldn't matter) defaults to full reading on gauge when circut is open (broken wire corroded unhooked etc.)
The fact that both tanks are reading full lead me to believe your problem is at selector switch. Chances are that both sending units did not fail at same time. I had to replace the selector switch due to the fact it was heavily rusted i bought a generic selector switch from jc whitney. I would hate to see you drop both tanks only to find it is not the problem.

Oh the switch is located on drivers side frame rail about where the cab and bed meet follow the fuel lines you will find it

Thanks Krazywolf8169 I will check that for sure i did drop midship tank removed sender and with the sender out i can move the float almost all the way to empty than it starts to read so there is only about 1/4 inch of float movement i can make gauge read full to empty if i move it slow enough with in that 1/4 i can make gauge read any where i want full,3/4,1/2,1/4 empty thanks for help i will check the switch :D

If theres only a 1/4 inch float movement, its bad. Float should move from bottom of tank, up to the top of the tank.

J5BAIL 07-02-2013 10:49 AM

The float will move several inches but only 1/4 inch of that movement reads on gauge after 1/4inch from bottom the tank reads way way over full.

The float moves 10, 12 inches, if only a 1/4 of that, movement reads on gauge. Sounds like sender is bad.
