Off and on Vibration and steering oddity
 

Hey all,

In the last week I have experienced 2 distinct episodes of full front end vibration on my 2008 F150 XLT. It feels like the whole front end is just going nuts from the grill right back to the firewall. I could feel it through the pedals and the steering wheel as well as the floor. In both cases I was driving at or over 80 kph (first time was actually doing 120 kph and the second at 80 kph which for me is perfectly normal speeds).

After arriving at my destination the first time I shut down the truck for 5 minutes and then drove again with no problem, left it parked during my time away ( 2 days) and it drove fine when I came home. 2 days after I got home the vibration occurred again, and then not since so I am at a loss as to what this could be.

At the same time the steering started to feel for lack of a better term heavy. Particularly noticeable during right hand turns it feels like it is going though a flat spot. It's currently too dark to check the tires but it's first on my list of things to check, but any suggestions would be appreciated as to what to look for when I do get a chance to look at it.

I should also mention that it had been into the dealer the week before for what they call a service 2 check and some brake work, don't know if that might have done something.

When was the last time you had an alignment performed?

I had a similar vibration once and it turned out to actually be misfires that was causing it and it just was a random occurrence and not sure what triggered it. For me the misfires where on both the plug and the coil at the same time which was why it was so noticeable.

Exact same thing happened to me and turns out my right parking brake was locked up / sticking, causing the vibration through the truck.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I am taking the truck in on Tuesday to have Ford take a good look over it. I was driving the other day and when over some sewers that were not quite flush to the road but not a huge bump on the driver side, and it seemed to clear the heavy steering for 24 hours now it's seizing back up again.
