Teapot 2bbl carb air cleaner
I tried this post on the Y-Block forum ... many views but no replies in the last couple weeks, so I'll try here. Need some help with identification of the oil bath air cleaner design, appearance, or "what it looks like" for this type carb. The carburetor is on a Lincoln Y-block (279, 302, 317, 332 - cousin to the Ford Y-block 239, 272, 292, 312) & looks like this Holley teapot carb I found on ebay. The engine was installed in a 53' F350 express pickup replacing the original Flathead. Engine probably came from a Ford F700/800 "Big Job". I'm in process of buying the truck "long distance" and detail info (engine no.'s, etc.) is hard to get, but it needs an air cleaner & I'd like to find an original or similar if possible, as long as it fits/seals properly. The a/c bottom opening looks like it needs to be larger than the typical y-block Ford/Autolite 2bbl carbs w/clamp rings. Need to know the opening i.d. and how it secures to the carb. A pic of the correct air cleaner that I need would be great. Thanks.

Wish i could help but i really don't know what to suggest. Back then they use oil bath air cleaners and they hard to find . If you want to go with a modern air filter with no oil bath you may be able to put something together. Pick up the seal that goes on top of the carb for a 60s/70s era holley 4/bl. If it fits you can get an after market chrome , ect. air cleaner. If you can't locate a tall filter for it , looks like that's what you would need, you can stack a couple up with sealer between them to get the height so you can secure the top cover. Sorry that's all i can come up with. __:)__JIM

Nicknamed "the towering inferno", due to their tendency to catch fire. Unless you are doing 100-pt resto, I think I'd replace it with a Holley 2110 model, but it would have to be one with a rectangular 4-bolt base.

Any later style air cleaner will go right on there. Then there are alum.
small square to large square adaptors so you can put a Holley square bowl 2300 on it. click on "My garage" pic of a 53 F900 that had a Y with a teapot I replaced the Y with a 391, But the air cleaner came of the teapot (now on a 2300 Holley) fits perfect. The engine pic is in there somewhere. |
That looks like a variant of the carburetor used on 52 and 53 Mercuries. Maybe an air cleaner from one of those would work.
