1989 F-450 10 lug wheels
We have two 1989 F-450 & 1992 Super Duty with the 16" Wheels 10 lugs.
Can we get 19.5" wheels with that bolt pattern? What year did these trucks change over to the metric bolt pattern? Have been looking it seems like they are available on the newer style 450 & 550. Would a larger 22.5" wheel also available? Just wanted to check out the options before purchasing 6 new tires. With the larger tires & wheel we would improve the fuel economy ect.. We appreciate your feedback. Ty, |
I know that Rickson Wheel used to list 19.5s for your 10 lug x 7.25" hub piloted F-450 mounting. But I don't see them listed now. Pretty sure this pattern was used through 1997, same as the F-250/350s used the 8 x 6.25" through 1997 before going metric in '98. I also checked my OEM wheel listings and see that 16" was all that was offered by Accuride and K-H. You might Google Rickson (I'm using the phone and can't do a link) and contact them to see what they can offer. You could also go to a custom builder like American Wheel Specialist in Pasco, WA, or Wheels Now in the Milwaukee area. Stu

Rickson shows a 19" upgrade for Ford F53 chassis motorhomes:
Rickson Wheel Manufacturing Looks like it might work, but you'll need to check. |
There it is, I knew I'd seen it but didn't look deep enough. Thanks. Now to argue with their recommended tire sizing. A 225/70R19.5" tire will be about 32" outside diameter, while an 8R19.5" will be 33.5" to 34". The taller tire will yield better road speed and economy. Stu

1989 F450 10 lug wheels upgrade to largest wheels
Will need to contact Erickson Wheels and see if the sell them with the older style bolt pattern do not need to purchase the Aluminum Wheel the steel ones will work fine.
Ty, for your reply and tip. Barry |
An economical 19.5, 10 lug wheel can be sourced from a P30 or a Chevy 3500 HD. The bolt patern is the same, but you will have to put them in a lathe and enlarge the center whole to the Superduty spec which is 5.460". I went with the taller 8Rx19.5 tires and they work and look so much better on my 1956 F 450.

Thanks for the great tip,
What years on the Chevy 3500 HD? Where might be a source to purchase some of these Chevy rimes Also what is a P30? Would like to see a picture of your 1956 F450 with the 19.5 Thank you again! |
A P30 is a General Motors heavy duty van type truck such as a bread truck type or small school bus. They are very common in small school buses. All of the 3500 HD's with 10 lug wheels should work also. I have some good photos and as you can tell, I'm new to posting. If someone will tell me how, I will post some pics of my wheels and my truck if you are interested. With 5.13 gears, it was well worth the change to the taller tires.

Not sure myself and have been on here for a couple of years. We have two duel wheel axles w/ the 513 gears 7.3L 5 speed ZF Transmission.
If you would send them to me @ barryeck@verizon.net We appreciate your knowledge and help. Thank you again |
