1948 F4 front brake drums, NumberDummy please help

I'am looking for front brake drums for my truck, I believe the part number to be 7RT 1125-D . I have checked Dennis Carpenter, Kanter, Tison, and Green Sales in Cincinnati with no luck. NumberDummy I could use your help. Thanks Jeff

Check with Chuck's trucks, the site that says old fords. He is a member here. There are two chucks trucks. I would go into more detail but got to run.

Also, try JobLot Automotive in , I think, Queens N.Y. . They supposedly specialize in the larger trucks.

Chuck has a partnership with Job Lot and will have what they have, and sells at their prices. He's told me before that NOS drums are gone, unless a guy gets lucky and finds some that were squirreled away long ago. Finding good used is a person's best hope. Stu

Thanks everyone for the information, if you know of anyone knows of serviceable used ones for sale I would be interested. Would it be possible to have them welded to build up the thickness and then turned? I don't know if welding would warp or weaken them, just a thought.

There's a process that involves spray welding that you could read about with a Google search. I, however, recall I asked Chuck about the process with focus on my M-H drums which are much rarer than F-4/5/6 drums. He said he'd tried having it done with marginal results. Maybe he'll drop in here to better describe his experience. Also, as I'm replying here I'm swapping text messages with Thundersnow70 (Mark) because he has an F-6 that he will be parting out. Those drums are available. Stu

Thanks for the info Stu, if those drums are available I would be interested.

I have thought about the possibilities of having "billet" drums machined to replace the irreplaceable.

Sheepdog48 05-24-2013 08:49 PM

Horvaths, I was wondering about that also but, the drums might cost half, of what I paid for the truck. Maybe in 10 years we will go out to the garage to check on the progress of whatever obsolete part our 3D printer is making for us.:-X04

I once had a pair of drums spray welded, and it was a mess. The stuff was so hard, that it would have never worked out. I machined it all back out, and made sleeves from new, common brake drums. I warmed the drums and shrank the sleeves, and they dropped right in. I had allowed .012 interference, so once the temperatures equalized, they were locked in place. It was many hours work, so it was expensive to do. If I had to do it again, I would just have new drums cast. It will probably cost less, and will be a better end result. Contact me if you are ready to go for it, and I'll see what I can do to get some made.
Chuck

Thanks Chuck, a member here is checking on a set. If they are not salvageable I will get in contact. If you go into production on them seems there is a market.

Thanks Chuck. That's the full description. Stu

64 f350 drw front drums

Anyone know if there is any chance that drums available for trailer applications would fit on the stock hubs? My brake came apart and ruined the drum so I am searching for a replacement. Thanks.
