2004 f150 4x4- how to flush transmission?

I have a 2004 Ford F150 4x4 with 170,000 miles. I am wanting to flush the transmission and refill it. The local quick lube wants $150. Is it just as simple to do it myself and save the cash?

Why would you want to flush it over a simple drain and refill?

I guess thats another question I need answered. when you get your oil change they always try and push the flush on you. but my father has the 07 model and his transmission was slipping a little and shifting hard other times (in his words). he had his flushed and says he hasnt had any more problems out of it.

I would not reccomend a flush at those miles unless it has been rebuilt recently . You may cause problems . Just drain and refill and change the filter . I have seen issues with trans and engine flushes . I don't like either on anything with those miles .

The only tie I've EVER heard that it was a good idea to flush a trans was from the guy trying to sell it to you,...

My 08 4x4 has 195,000 miles on it and I flush the trans every 30 k with out cleaning chemicals. Its my understanding that if the trans has not had regular service you do not want to flush as this will dislodge sludge etc which could cause problems with trans. If little or no service it is best to just drain and fill. IMHO.
