2000 V10 Spark Plug Question
 

Hey everyone! Let me just say this is my very first post to FTE! I just bought a 2000 Ex Limited with the 6.8L engine. Has 93,000 miles and I'm going to do the plugs this weekend. I got the motorcraft iridiums and I've read in 2 different places to use anti seize and to not use anti seize when you put the new plugs back in. Seems like all the V10 posts say to use anti seize on the new plugs. I read some posts on a 5.4L saying not to use anti seize. What have ya'll done with the 6.8L when replacing the plugs? Thanks in advance!!

Do it either way, I don't use it myself and I use the regular plugs. Don't forget new boots!

Thanks EXv10! Yea I got the boots too. Not looking forward to the back right plugs (looking from drivers seat). I'm a short guy so I'll be sitting on the engine practically!!

Yes to the anti seize, just a dab of the good silver stuff on the plug threads. Don't over do it.

Welcome! Yes use anti-seize and check your torque. Take your time with as few interruptions as possible.

I've always said anything you put on the plugs is going to upset the torque value. I use regular plugs and change them sooner. I'm not a fan of "extended life" products. These plugs can strip out those early model heads with the combination of anti seize and "getting it plenty tight".

Should Spark Plugs be Installed with Anti-Seize Compound?

Make sure to use a torque wrench.
Without it you will either strip the threads or the plug will come out.
These engines/years had issues with plugs coming out.
I'd also use regular motorcraft plugs. nothing else.

Autolites are the same thing, and I never torque mine. There is a fine line between too tight and too loose with these due to the tapered seat. I also like the regular plugs.

Thanks everyone. Sammie0126 that's a great tutorial!! Think I'm gonna stick with the standard motorcrafts and use just a small amount of antiseize. Seems like the majority of posts I've read suggest to use it.
