Fuel leak from carb
 

Hey guys, I have an '86 F250, 460 cu.in., automatic, 2WD.
Fuel is leaking from where fuel line enters carb. It attaches to what looks like the "vapor separator" mentioned in other posts. Is that what this is?

Whoever put this on, it must be the wrong part cuz it just spins if I try to tighten it. Took it off and threads were wrapped in teflon tape. Threads on the part and carb don't look/feel stripped. Put back in to see how it fits without the tape and fit doesn't get snug until almost all the way in - too much side-to-side movement. Here it is removed ...

Should I try to replace this part, from Ford dealer, how would I identify it and the carburetor? And how about a temporary fix until the weekend?

looks like a fuel inlet fitting with a filter to me. whats the holley list number on the carb , located on the air horn front ? That number will I.D. the carb. ,I don't think that inlet goes on that carb . I've never seen one like that and I have worked on holleys for over 40 years

List # is 50262-2

Holley model 4180 , ford. The list number will get you the correct fuel inlet fitting you need

That does look like a fuel filter. I am wondering if your carb is aftermarket, and should have the standard fitting on it that comes with holley's(has the coarse screen and looks like a big nut) and someone has tried to install a fuel filter with the wrong threads.

Should he be using the piece in this link? And then install a external fuel filter with hose clamps?

It is the fuel inlet filter. A good number to use is this one: E5HE-9510-ED, Holley list number 50260-3.

This is he carburetor number from my truck. What you probably have is a stripped float bowl where the filter screws in. You should be able to order a replacement from Holley.

Dave, that is the filter design my Holley had on it.

Now that looks right 85lebaron2, did that carb come off a 460 motor?

Guys, I really appreciate the help, but I'm getting a little confused. Maybe cuz I don't have much experience with this stuff.

I have the E5HE-9510-MC, 50262-2, which I suppose is model 4160, 450 CFM according to hotstuff ... so I should ask for the fuel inlet filter for that one, correct? And see if the threads in the float bowl are stripped when I screw it in. Or maybe you're saying I should order the filter that fits your size carb because the inlet for mine won't come with a filter and I would therefore have to attach a separate filter inline??? Sorry I'm not understanding.

Should I get the part from a Ford dealer or from Holley guys? And if the float bowl is stripped, then what? I guess I can leave that until I find out.

I was wrong to correct my error the 50262-2 is model 4180 1985 ford 7.5 motor , got my Holley book out .the 50260-3 is a model 4180 , 1985 ford 7.5 motor manual trans. By the way I have a fuel bowl if you need it .

Gee, that's kind of strange. Mine was a 1986 F-350 7.5L with C6 transmission until I converted it to EFI and E4OD.

Yes, that is the carb off mine after I switched to EFI.

the carbs are made mo.s before the trucks so 1985 carb on a 1986 truck is not so strange

Shouldn't any part store have this filter? I don't have time right now, but if I where you I would go to Autozone's site and plug in your truck, and see what comes up for fuel filter. They usually have pictures, and sometimes you can figure stuff out with some of these sites. RockAuto is another good one for research purposes, they even sometimes sell motorcraft, so if you did want the latest Ford part number you might find it there.
