Having a hard time figuring out why the truck clunks when trying to steer. The guys say it the tie rods.king pins. I am also having trouble finding the outer tie rods looked on lmc and they show the part that I need tie rod I think. But they don't seem to have. Really need help and advice. The chiltons I have been loaned has little info. On a tight budget. Thanks from this lass

Welcome to FTE

Camper Special makes no difference. Draglink, tie rods same: 1965/70 F100/250 2WD, 1971 F100/250 2WD before serial number M00,001.

These parts are available from a local NAPA auto parts store, so there's no need to buy from a repro parts seller, then pay shipping charges.

3304 is draglink, 3A130 is tie rod end, 3A131 is tie rod.

It's not a build sheet, it's a parts catalog illustration, it didn't come from any internet site.

1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog available on a CD from hipoparts.com.

Old dog learned new tricks: I began posting parts catalog pics/text circa 4/15/2013, because next to no one else was doing same, especially in this forum.

Also acquired a 'magic wand' scanner, so now can scan/post pics/text from sources (including microfiche parts catalogs) not on CD's.

See album pics, taken by ctubutis, moderator of 1980/86 forum, who was here 4/3-4/20 and taught old dog new tricks.

Might want to check the radial arm bushing also.

The steering/suspension system has lots of parts that, if worn, can clunk, groan, and make all sorts of odd sounds.

But have you even crawled underneath the rig to do a visual inspection? What about rocking the truck to and fro to determine if you can see or hear any free play? What about jacking up one corner and rocking the wheels top and bottom and side to side? What about having someone turn the wheel while observing different joints to see if any parts do not move in unison when they are supposed to? Have some skin in the game.

Do not tell us that posting on FTE was your first step. Your troubleshooting method, skills of deductive reasoning, and use of that tool between your ears is required if you're gonna own one of these rigs..... And remember, there is no OBDII port to rescue your azz!!!

Wow that was like really mean. I have a better word for u but a lady should never use such words in such a public setting. Yes I did those thing first. I was getting 3 differant opions from the guys that I know. And before I went to buy to many parts I wanted restores point of views. I have never done this kind of extent of work. Just the basics. And the manual I have was no real help. ALL of it looks bad and no it dosent turn at all . I was not able to lift her yet.

Then tell us that you did those things first. We're not clairvoyant. Go about fixing your truck like a mechanic. .. 'not by throwing parts and money at it.

Mean? Ha! You'll need thicker skin and playing the gender politics in a "in a public setting" won't work.

You're doing great kiddo. (Sorry for the kiddo, I can't help it at my age.) My moniker on FTE is "Learning slowly..." and sometimes I wonder about the first part.) But IMO, some of the most curt members are the most informative and really the most helpful once you get over your hurt feelings and can really focus on the advice that was given. Really, the most rude response, is no response at all.

So, when someone calls you a dummy or words to that effect, just pick yourself off the floor and get back at it with a renewed vengeance. Your best response is to take his/their advice, do the suggested work/inspection, post the results (with pictures if possible) and ask for (his/our) reply on what to do next. Make him/us put up or shut up.

One of the best slogans on this forum is F350-6's “Good judgment comes from experience, and a lot of that comes from bad judgment.” Will Rogers He doesn't usually have the time of day for me or my posts, but his knowledge and experience is golden when given.

Just keep gaining experience and posting your questions, your results and pictures, and all of these FTE members (even the ones that may first appear to be "mean") will have your back.

I'm not part of the truck forum here since I have a much better bronco, all I can advise is that is someone is "mean" on here, laugh it off and keep going. There is a saying "an internet fight is like the special Olympics, in the end we are still retarded." It's a little rough and some think it's mean but it's true no?

Anyways, the other point is, these guys are old... No beating around the bush, and they have delt with a lot of younger people coming on here and just posting Willy nilly before searching the site and before trying to troubleshoot their problems. It gets kind of tiring having to tell people the same thing over and over, and I think that contributes to their "mean" responses.

Just take it with a grain of salt and look at the information given instead of the insult. :)
