97 f350 diesel transmission problems

I took my truck in to a local transmission shop to have the tranny checked cause it is not working properly and they told me it is fine. I want to troubleshoot it with you guys cause im worried something is going to fail and leave me stranded somewhere.

When I start my truck it makes a air sucking noise breifly.

When it is cold it will act like it is having to work real hard and I have to really push down the pedal to get is to get going. It only does this when it has been sitting overnight and just the first 1/4 mile of driving. If I let it idle for a while it doesn't seem to make a difference, still does it.

It also doesnt want to shift in to the highest gear first thing in the morning when it is cold. It shifts into overdrive but not 3rd?. I don't even know if thats possible. Also recently I have noticed that the gear selector is very sloppy and when I shift in to drive it is sometimes actually in neutral and I have to shift a little further more towards 2nd to get drive.

I did have a tranny hose that was leaking and I ran the truck breifly with low fluid unknowingly. When the truck has been driven for a short distance everything works fine. Which may be why the tranny shop couldn't find anything.

Thanks in advance,
jeff
